Job Description

Complex Claims Director Financial Lines

Join us as a Complex Claims Director to take on key responsibilities within a worldclass claims function.

We are looking for a lawyer with 5 years of commercial litigation experience to join our Financial Lines Claims team. You will be managing some of Canadas largest and most complex litigation files while maintaining true worklife balance.

How you will create an impact

  • Manage a variety of complex commercial claims such as securities class actions shareholder disputes professional liability employment litigation regulatory actions fraud investigations alleged breaches of contractual representations and warranties cybersecurity breaches and privacy actions
  • Analyze insurance coverage and issue coverage positions relating to a range of specialty commercial insurance policies such as Director & Officers Liability Professional Liability Employment Practices Liability Fidelity Pension Liability M&A/Representations & Warranties Insurance and Cyber Insurance
  • Assess financial exposure on claims set reserves and conduct presentations to senior management on high exposure losses
  • Monitor external counsel and ensure compliance with AIGs litigation guidelines
  • Provide guidance to Financial Lines underwriters and share information that may impact their risk assessment to ensure business alignment
  • Provide optimal claims service to clients and broker partners
  • Collaborate on litigation strategy and attend mediations and pretrial conferences
  • Negotiate and settle claims within your prescribed authority
  • Work within a team of other highly skilled and experienced claims professionals
  • Exemplify litigation and claims handling best practices

What youll need to succeed

  • Law degree with 5 years of legal practice is strongly preferred
  • Experience in commercial litigation OR insurance coverage litigation OR significant experience in commercial insurance claims handling
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Creative problem solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external business partners
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fastpaced team environment
  • Proficient computer skills in a paperless environment
  • Position is in Toronto or Montreal
