The Opportunity:
The Utilities and Engineering Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking a Centrifugal Chiller Technician I to join our team. This entrylevel position is responsible for performing daily maintenance repairs startups and orderly shutdowns of various brands of UCFs district watercooled chillers as well as commercial and industrial HVAC equipment. The technician will work directly under the supervision of the Chilled Water Manager and Centrifugal Chiller Technician III.
At this level the Chiller Technician will be expected to possess a basic understanding of maintenance service and installation activities and use the universitys computerized maintenance management system (AssetWorks AiM) to document work orders maintenance checklists and equipment logs.
Responsibilities:
Troubleshoot and diagnose issues requiring corrective repairs including developing scope of work and determining the necessary components or equipment for replacement refurbishment or repair.
Assist in escorting contracted service personnel through the plant as directed by the supervisor or management.
Perform entrylevel system maintenance and repairs on plant buildings chillers pumps cooling towers actuators underground distribution pipes valves and vaults.
Document and report deficiencies ensuring accurate records of labor and materials used in work tasks through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Under direct supervision make minor adjustments to ensure equipment operates safely reliably efficiently and costeffectively.
Maintain and update plant system status logs and CMMS entries reviewing previous log entries to ensure continuity of operations and plant equipment uptime.
Provide input for requisitioning parts and supplies needed for plant equipment maintenance.
Follow Lock Out/Tag Out procedures as outlined by NFPA 70E and university policy.
Collaborate with other technicians and technical teams as assigned to address and resolve multidisciplinary system issues.
Respond to emergency conditions or equipment faults taking appropriate action as directed by the supervisor. Communicate promptly and effectively regarding any operational deficiencies or system malfunctions discovered during daily operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experiencepursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience assisting with or performing maintenance on HVAC systems preferably including exposure to centrifugal chillers and associated chilled water system components.
Basic understanding of chilled water systems pumps cooling towers and HVAC control systems.
Familiarity with using hand tools basic diagnostic equipment and performing routine mechanical tasks under supervision.
Exposure to or training in reading simple technical diagrams manuals and mechanical drawings.
Experience (or coursework) with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as AssetWorks AiM.
Awareness of workplace safety standards including Lock Out/Tag Out procedures and basic OSHA/EH&S guidelines.
Demonstrated ability to follow instructions work as part of a team and communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers.
Willingness to learn and develop technical skills related to mechanical systems HVAC operations and preventative maintenance.
Ability to work in a physically demanding environment including outdoor conditions varying temperatures and confined spaces.
Flexibility to respond to emergency situations or work outside of standard hours as required.
Health Assessment Required:
UCF Policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.
Special Instructions to the Applicants:
Position involves working in nontemperaturecontrolled environments with intense heat.
Position requires a valid Class E drivers license. This position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.
This position requires the completion of a Level II background check.
The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is $23.33 to $31.21. The final salary will be determined based on the candidates qualifications experience and internal equity considerations.
