Job Description

North Providence Public Schools is seeking an enthusiastic and passionate Special Educator to serve as the Districts Wilson Practitioner and to provide service to our students at parentally placed schools.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Provide direct instructional services to students in accordance with District curriculum and state standards across multiple school sites including parentally placed schools.
  2. Collaborate with principals teachers and support staff in both public and parentally placed settings to ensure continuity of services and student success.
  3. Travel between assigned North Providence Public Schools and parentally placed schools during the workday using a personal vehicle.
  4. Serve as a liaison between the District and parentally placed schools supporting communication and service coordination.
  5. Help maintain individual records for each student.
  6. Guide students in developing positive relationships with peers adults outside agencies service providers and other community members.
  7. Design and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  8. Provide escort and assistance to students as necessary.
  9. Develop and implement data collection tools for Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Manifestation Determinations as necessary.
  10. Direct classroom support staff to meet the needs of assigned student(s).
  11. Conduct and interpret educational evaluations.
  12. Complete case management and Medicaid paperwork.
  13. Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
  14. Utilize deescalation techniques acquired from crisis based yearly training (Safety Care CPI etc) to assist students when met with a challenge by physical needs such as outbursts running etc.
  15. Required to attend upcoming Safety Care training for deescalation techniques and renew annually.
  16. Differentiate instruction and develop materials based on each student(s) needs whether in individual or group settings.
  17. Modify student work to remediate areas of opportunity.
  18. Attend meetings to help organize a weekly program of instruction and discuss problematic students and situations as necessary.
  19. Implement sensory diet techniques.
  20. Consult with all other personnel and outside services as needed.
  21. Administer and interpret the WIST (Word Identification and Spelling Test) both pre and post to illustrate the progress for each student.
  22. Deliver the Wilson Multisensory Reading service and evaluate students in various schools (not limited to those in the District).
  23. Plan lessons for rigorous instruction using Wilson Multisensory Reading.
  24. Provide resource support as directed by Building Principals and/or the Director of Student Services and/or his/her designee(s).
  25. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Building Principals and/or the Director of Student Services and/or his/her designee(s).
