Job Description

Position Summary

The role of the research interviewer (Level 3) involves conducting structured face to face interviews with people who regularly inject drugs at designated sites for the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS). The IDRS is an annual research project run by the Drug Trends Team at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre (NDARC).

In this role you will:

  • Participate in virtual training sessions reading through manuals and interviewing resources conducting practice interviews and attending briefings (facetoface and via telephone).
  • Follow clear instructions from the team coordinator including health and safety training data collection training and data entry training.
  • Follow instructions from the team coordinator on site specific interviewing processes and protocols.
  • Support the data collection team by completing interviews in a timely manner and reporting to the team coordinator of any issues that may arise.
  • Ensure all interviewing is conducted in a professional respectful and nonjudgmental manner.
  • Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
  • Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience collecting quantitative data or conducting interviews as part of a research project in Alcohol and other Drugs (AOD) is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of drugs is desirable.
  • Ability to conduct interviews in a respectful ethical and nonjudgmental manner.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people.

The interview will be conducted at places such as NSPs including Liverpool Marrickville Kings Cross and Redfern.
