  • Employee has strong communication skills which are essential to the work of an advocate. They express oneself clearly and effectively when speaking and writing. Employee practices active listening by facilitating twoway communication and ensures that information is understood by all parties. They share information in a timely manner using the most appropriate method and follows up with individuals requesting additional information referrals or assistance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (includes but is not limited to the following):

1. Meet with survivors their children and pets upon entry into the Emergency Shelter Program.

2. Provide ongoing quality traumainformed case management services to survivors their children and pets in an emergency shelter program.

3. Develop goal plans that regularly assess the needs safety and wellbeing of the survivor as well as those of their children/pets.

4. Assist survivors with exploring/establishing/maintaining a continuum of services including but not limited to employment other eligible income budgeting skills school enrollment childcare pet care connections to medical mental health and substance use disorder resources as applicable veterinarian care education for basic living/ parenting skills locating/securing permanent housing. etc.

5. Provide referrals and assistance with connecting to all available Safe Berks services and community resources.

6. Initiate referrals for school age children to the IU under the McKinneyVento Act when appropriate.

7. Assist survivors and their children with safety planning identifying supports and goal planning.

8. Coordinate exit plans for survivors their children and pets leaving the emergency shelter program.

9. Explore community resources and develop/strengthen community partnerships with other social service agencies.

10. Maintain accurate and comprehensive case notes and electronic records in accordance with agency standards.

11. Attend and actively participate in individual/group supervision and staff meetings.

12. Crosstrain with Crisis Hotline & Intake Advocates.

13. Crosstrain with Residential Services Advocates.

14. All other duties as determined by department director.

Requirements

Educational & Experience Requirements:

1 3 years experience working in the Human Services field or performing advocacy work

Prior experience providing case management to underserved communities required

Associates degree in human services or related field preferred. A degree can be substituted for equivalent and relevant employment experience.

High school diploma or equivalent degree required


Other Requirements:

  • Completion of a background check request; FBI State Police and Child Abuse Clearances obtained within required timeframe under Act 153 through agency vendor
  • Completion of 66hour Sexual and Domestic Violence Training provided by agency
  • Valid drivers license and insurance are required to travel to client sites
