ASDB was founded in 1912 the year of Arizonas statehood. ASDB serves over 2000 children who are blind visually impaired deaf hard of hearing or deafblind from birth to grade 12. ASDB operates two schools for the deaf one school for the blind our statewide Early Learning Program which includes birth to three and preschool programs and Itinerant Services for students attending a school with one of our district partners. CLASS SUMMARY

The Speech and Language Pathologist works on supplementing enhancing and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as but not limited todirect activities with students designed to develop prelanguage and language skills oralmotor control for speech production vocalization and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPserves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.

Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation and using screening protocols ; follows and implements documented IEP plans or protocols;documents student progress toward meeting established objectives; works on administering assessments preparing materials and performing clerical duties;prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities;adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs.

Under the direction and supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologistthe Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing enhancing and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as but not limited todirect activities with students designed to develop prelanguage and language skills oralmotor control for speech production vocalization and use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.


Conducts speech and language screenings without interpretation and using screening protocols developed by the supervising Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP); follows and implements documented IEP plans or protocols;documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to the SLP;assists the SLP during assessments preparing materials and performing clerical duties;prepares therapy materials and/or equipment for use in the classroom and therapy activities;adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs.


Position assists in maintaining student records tallying data preparing charts records graphs and reports;assists in organizing classroom activities such as displaying educational materials.


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree in Speech Pathology

LICENSES / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

SLPA Certification through Arizona Department of Health Services

Must be able to pass FBI and State background check or Fingerprint Clearance Card as position requires by policy or Statute

Defensive Driver Training Program to be completed by all agency personnel that drive on State business

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Policies procedures and programs of the immediate work unit

Principles and practices of administration and management

Agency or program rules regulations and operating procedures

Federal and State regulations laws and acts that impact Speech Pathology

Instructional activities related to Speech Language Pathology

Delivery of intervention programs for students with communication disabilities

The remediation or development of speech and language skills

Student recordkeeping standards

The use of alternative communication devices and systems

Software programs necessary to compile data and generate reports

DEMONSTRATED SKILL/ABILITY TO:

Document students progress toward meeting established treatment objectives

Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising SLP

Provide assessment and treatment of speech language voice and fluency disorders

Safely operate alternative communication devices and systems
