JOB TITLE: School District Resource NurseREPORTS TO: Director of NursingLOCATION: Worcester Public SchoolsWorcester MassachusettsPOSITION PURPOSE:The School District Resource Nurse position is an opportunity for a school nurse who has the acumen to mentor new nurses and existing colleagues in their school nursing community. The School District Resource Nurse will exhibit a high level of interest in developing and expanding not only their professional expertise but that of their peers. The School District Resource Nurse is considered a clinical leader amongst peers; the role is designed to enhance clinical knowledge to provide peer support and coaching. The School District Resource Nurse will be given adequate time to complete educational programs manage quality initiatives and to participate in the evaluation of quality outcomes. Implementing mentors into an organization has proven to improve clinical outcomes staff satisfaction and retention. The School District Resource Nurse is also a direct care nurse. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required Qualifications: Must have a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts (M.G.L. c. 71 s. 53) Hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a college or university program in nursing accredited by the National League for Nursing (unless grandfathered by D.O.E.). Hold a MA DESE Licensure in School Nurse All Levels. Maintain certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation from a recognized provider (i.e. American Red Cross American Heart) and obtain a certification in First Aid. Minimum of three years experience working as a nurse in a school setting. SNAP expertise required. Patience positivity communication and listening skills compassionate teamwork authenticity and enthusiasm. Proficient in all clinical skills that are appropriate to School Nursing. Demonstrates a nondirectional coaching approach to develop learning problem solving and growth of the mentee or staff member. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience supporting scholars with special needs and multilingual learners. Ability to speak Spanish Portuguese Arabic Albanian Vietnamese Nepali or an African Language. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Key responsibilities include: Assists the novice nurse with elbowelbow support during onboarding to promote and maintain scholar health and safety. Acts as role model and mentor to staff who do not possess the skill set of any such procedure or initiative. Instrumental in working with their colleagues to achieve compliance with patient care standards and documentation requirements. Models problem solving and critical thinking for their peers. Communication with all team members is respectful and professional. Assists in the development of educational resources orientation documents and evaluation tools. Supports and encourages mentees to manage their own learning in order to develop skills maximize their potential improve their performance to become a solutionsoriented positive and highfunctioning part of the nursing team. Recognizes appreciates and incorporates differences in the provision of care. Helps mentees find their own way to develop a process that is aligned with the district nursing teams vision. Promotes a healthy team environment by offering an induction period for the mentee holds regular buddy meetings and will set aside time for periodic nonevaluative review and feedback with the mentees. Enables with support the individual to set specific realistic and achievable goals discuss options and take active steps to improve aspects of clinical knowledge professional development and revalidation. The Supervisors/Director of Nursing meet with the School District Resource Nurse at a minimum quarterly or more often as needed to assess learning needs present clinical updates and review outcomes data. Works collaboratively with nursing department leadership on allocation of resources through the daily scheduling. May be asked to step into the role of building level nurse from time to time to ensure the health and safety of all scholars. May be asked to assist with daily scheduling from time to time to ensure the health and safety of all is a 185 day contracted position; 6.5 Hour days based on the school hours. This position is contracted through the MNA and includes paid sick and access to the citys health and dental insurance plans. Salary Range: Starting Base Pay from $61411 $93064
