Job Description

Position Description:

The Director of Teacher Development working closely with colleagues across units directs and oversees the design planning budgeting execution and evaluation of all educator development initiatives designed to build internal capacity across Jefferson Parish Schools educator workforce in alignment with the districts strategic plan. The Director of Teacher Development works directly with the Chief Academic Officer to shape plan execute and evaluate the short and longterm strategic vision of the Teaching and Learning unit in order to improve educational outcomes for the students of Jefferson Parish Schools. This role requires and maintains a highly visible presence among all levels of educators especially teachers and administrators.

Reports To:

Executive Director of Teaching and Learning

Scope of Responsibility:

  • Develops relationships with key external support partners to in collaboration with key Teaching and Learning staff and stakeholders to develop execute and evaluate academic support and educator development initiatives.
  • Manages maintains develops executes and evaluates components of the educator talent system ensuring alignment with the district strategic plan school/district needs and state initiatives/policies.
  • Communicates consistently with the Executive Director of Grants and Federal Programs to ensure adequate funding and expenditures; ensures compliance with federal regulations through detailed maintenance of attendance/deliverable records.
  • Maintains clear and consistent communication with key LDOE staff to ensure compliance with all applicable programs policies and laws in regards to initiatives at the state level; reports consistent progress/updates to the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Leads the recruitment selection and retention of key teacher leadership positions; communicates with and provides support to Executive Directors of School Support and building administrators regarding roles and responsibilities of teacher leader positions; coordinates approval of roles and responsibilities including contracts and evaluation with the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Leads and/or supports the recruitment and selection of schoolbased administrative positions in direct collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer and Executive Directors of School Support.
  • Develops plans executes and evaluates professional development for the district to address identified needs including Summer PD; lead the development of short and long range professional learning for the district in collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer.
  • Manages maintains develops executes and evaluates new teacher support program; guides school and districtbased support ensuring targeted resource allocation and teacher leader support to assist; responsible for the recruitment selection development execution and evaluation of the districts alternative certification process for new teachers.
  • Coordinates with the Chief Academic Officer to assist in overseeing execution of district pilot programs and special projects(i.e. Literacy initiatives piloting of curriculum).
  • Coordinates communicates and monitors the implementation of grant programs.

Instructional Components

  • Fulfill duties traditionally expected of district level leaders
  • Works collaboratively with all school communities to help develop and maintain a shared vision that is aligned to the districts vision and mission.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and those providing direct student instruction as well as professionals providing ancillary services
  • Review draft study recommend and implement policies curricula and plans to improve the quality of instruction and school climate and culture
  • Conduct site visits and classroom walkthroughs
  • Support leaders in the preparation of school and class schedules
  • Participate in the staffing of the school via the recruitment interview and selection and/or assignment of personnel subject to superintendent approval
  • Attend meetings generally associated with the instruction of students including instructional leadership team meetings and clusters
  • Monitoring tracking and analyzing any performance data
  • Supervises the implementation of equity and effectiveness in all grading policies including district school and classroom grading practices.
  • Manages the timely preparation and delivery of district and statewide testing.
  • Plans for and assesses the overall impact of professional development activities on improving teaching and student learning.
  • Secures the necessary resources for meaningful professional growth including the time for planning and the use of emerging technologies.
  • Provide instructional class coverage during a teacher absence or vacancy.

Supervision

  • Supervision of other leaders including Principals where applicable Directors Coordinators and all others reporting to the employee or for whose supervision the employee is responsible as applicable
  • Complete and/or assist in the preparation/implementation of employee observations evaluations IAPs and other associated tasks and monitoring
  • Applies laws policies regulations and procedures fairly consistently wisely and appropriately.
  • Manages time and delegates appropriate administrative tasks to maximize the attainment of district and school goals

Noninstructional and Other Components

  • Maintain office space and work areas in a clean condition through the oversight of staff and contracted services as applicable
  • Maintain a productive culture of teaching and learning.
  • Attend faculty staff department and central office/principal meetings as applicable
  • Establish school policies governing students and employees
  • Attend professional development or training sessions
  • Attend job fairs and related events
  • Attend IEP MDR and A/BIT meetings
  • Attend backtoschool openhouse graduation and other school/community events
  • Interview employ and complete necessary hires to staff schools and any employee in the Teaching and Learning unit.
  • Attend PIP Evaluation Observation IAP and student discipline meetings/hearings
  • Attend school board committee regular board meetings or special board meetings upon request
  • Participate in the preparation of necessary curriculum documents and corresponding disciplinary processes for both students and employees
  • Maintain positive parent and community contact and problemsolving
  • Represent the district at all functions and/or meetings at which a district representative is required.
  • Any extracurricular activities as determined by the supervisor/principal.
  • Meeting with teachers or staff members to discuss school operations student progress or upcoming events
  • Reviewing and finalizing budgets reports or administrative tasks.
  • Planning leading facilitating and participating in professional development workshops or training sessions.
  • Handling discipline issues or addressing any urgent matters that arise during the day.
  • Collaborating with community organizations or partners to support both school and district programs.
  • Planning and strategizing for future school and district wide improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting extracurricular activities or athletic events that take place during and after school hours including but not limited to afterschool tutoring and other students services.
  • Providing additional supervision or support for other district personnel school leaders teachers and students who may need extra help or assistance.
  • Manages time and delegates appropriate administrative tasks to maximize the attainment of both district and school goals.
  • In collaboration with the central office staff develops safety and emergency operations plans and supervises regular safety drills.
  • Fosters an overall climate that supports both student and staff success and promotes respect and appreciation for all students staff and parents who feel valued and belong to the school community.
  • Supports services such as transportation food health and extended care responsibly.
  • Supports the operations staff with establishing procedures for the safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records.
  • Uses available technology to manage school operations.
  • Monitors and evaluates school operations and uses feedback appropriately to enhance effectiveness.
  • Ensures that student records are complete and current.
  • Assists and collaborates with the central staff for the smooth running of personnel management emergency procedures and facility operations.
  • Maintains a visible and accessible presence in the school.
  • Protects instructional time when scheduling events and communication efforts.
  • Ensures that school facilities are conducive to a positive school environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for all physical properties assigned to the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for graduation and/or closing of school activities.

Leads annual evaluation of curricular programs and materials; collaborates with Chief Academic Officer to lead adoption processes and negotiate contracts with partners; works with Curriculum and PD Coordinator Executive Director of Federal Programs and Chief Academic Officer to coordinate purchasing.

The Director of Teacher Development should be exceptionally detailed organized and able to direct and execute multiple competing priorities along with engaging multiple stakeholders in all facets of the role. Above all the Director of Teacher Development must have an unwavering belief in the ability of all educators to grow and that all students can achieve at the highest levels.

  • Minimum of (5) years of teaching experience with demonstrated sustained effectiveness.
  • Curriculum and instruction experience required; educator development experience (coaching building programming) preferred.
  • Masters degree required; Masters degree in education preferred.
  • Analytical; uses data to make informed decisions.
  • Strong internal and external communication ability.
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability; able to manage multiple competing priorities demonstrating sound logical judgment and thought.
  • Establish structures and processes that enable efficient productivity.
  • Understanding of multiple operational facets of a school system and the ability to collaborate across various levels and departments to successfully accomplish intended outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of district priorities initiatives and strategic endeavors.
  • Understanding of all laws policies and regulations regarding the operation of Louisiana schools including but not limited to Bulletinsand 1706.
  • This position may require hours outside of the standard work day.

  • Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders. The candidate has exceptional interpersonal and relationshipbuilding skills and an ability to interact with a diverse group of school district and external professionals.

Physical Involvement:

Sitting is required most of each work day. Must be able to operate office equipment. Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Ability to provide own transportation to schools work locations and meeting sites. Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations including locations not on the ground floor.
