Job Description

Overview Energy is building a missiondriven team committed to delivering spacebased solar power to the world. We operate at the intersection of space and clean energy delivering baseload power 24/7 without seasonality or the need for batteries. We are based in the Northern Virginia/DC area are backed by worldclass investors and currently operate in stealth mode.

We are seeking a highly skilled Machinist & Tooling Expert precision manufacturing team. This individual will be responsible for machining assembling and fabricating hightolerance components and tooling for mechanisms actuators and deployable systems. The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with complex mechanical assemblies excels at developing custom tooling and fixturing to support intricate fabrication and assembly processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual mills lathes and precision grinders to produce aerospacegrade components with tight tolerances.

  • Design fabricate and validate custom tooling and fixtures to support precision machining assembly and testing of aerospace mechanisms.

  • Perform precision assembly of mechanical systems including hinges actuators deployment mechanisms and structural assemblies.

  • Conduct detailed inspections using precision metrology tools (CMM micrometers calipers optical comparators) to ensure all parts meet stringent quality and dimensional requirements.

  • Support the development and refinement of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency repeatability and quality.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree technical certificate or apprenticeship in machining manufacturing or related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a machinist in the aerospace or precision manufacturing industry.

  • Expertise in machining hightolerance components for mechanisms and precision assemblies.

  • Proficiency in CNC programming (Mastercam Fusion 360 or similar) setup and operation.

  • Strong understanding of materials (titanium aluminum alloys stainless steels composites) and appropriate cutting techniques.

  • Proven experience designing and fabricating custom tooling and fixturing to support complex machining and assembly processes.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings GD&T and technical specifications.

  • Experience with precision assembly and test of aerospace mechanisms or comparable highperformance mechanical systems.

  • Strong problemsolving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Excellent attention to detail organization and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with spaceflight hardware flightqualified mechanisms or deployable systems.

  • Knowledge of environmental testing processes (vibration thermal vacuum) for aerospace mechanisms.

  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace documentation practices.
