The Chief Engineer will oversee the safe efficient and effective operation of all building systems at Tuskegee University. This individual will lead a team of engineers and technicians manage contractor performance and ensure optimal performance of all mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
Operations & Maintenance:
Ensure safe and efficient operation of all campus building systems and equipment
Supervise the maintenance of HVAC systems boilers water systems pumps piping and valves
Conduct and review system logs to ensure proper functioning
Diagnose and report system malfunctions or failures
Perform preventative maintenance and repair tasks as required
Team Leadership:
Lead mentor and manage a team of engineering and maintenance personnel
Respond to critical afterhours issues and emergency situations
Provide seniorlevel technical support and guidance across campus facilities
Project & Contractor Management:
Oversee contractors working within university facilities
Schedule and supervise contractor work ensuring compliance with performance and safety standards
Manage daily field issues and escalate to account leadership as needed
Procurement & Inventory:
Maintain appropriate inventory levels of tools parts and supplies
Prepare and submit purchase order requests to support maintenance operations
Compliance & Training:
Monitor and ensure adherence to all safety and operational protocols
Lead training initiatives in safety technical systems and operational procedures
Respond to and document service calls and emergency situations
Administrative Duties:
Utilize Microsoft Office tools (Word Excel Outlook Teams) for communication documentation and reporting
Complete other duties as assigned by the property management team or client representatives
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience (e.g. Chief Engineer Assistant Chief Engineer)
Proven experience managing teams and working with contractors
Universal CFC EPA Certification required
Trade school union apprenticeship military service or college education preferred
Strong customer service and communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
