Job Description

The Division of Sidewalk & Inspection Management (SIM) is responsible for maintaining 12750 miles of sidewalk and more than 185000 corners throughout the City. The Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP) a unit within SIM is committed to providing pedestrian (curb) ramps citywide that meet applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. Pedestrian ramps are a critical component in providing safe and accessible means of travel throughout New York City. Pedestrian ramps provide access on and off our streets and sidewalk and are an essential tool for all pedestrians especially aging New Yorkers and persons with disabilities.

The Pedestrian Ramp Program (PRP) is tasked with providing pedestrian (curb) ramps citywide that meet applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. Pedestrian ramps are a critical component in providing safe and accessible means of travel throughout New York City. Pedestrian ramps provide access on and off our streets and sidewalks and are an essential tool for all pedestrians especially aging New Yorkers and persons with disabilities. PRP oversees asset management for ramps provides technical guidance to other DOT teams as well as entities working in the rightofway provides design assistance and performs reviews manages projects in conjunction with the Department of Design and Construction coordinates and trains other city and state agencies and stakeholders and assesses program performance.

Based on the candidates skillset some typical tasks may include data entry; verification of project conflicts; evaluating aggregating and visualizing pedestrian ramp data; production of reports reviewing drawings and tracking comments and responses. maintenance of a public facing website; development work plans for future pedestrian ramp work; provide support in project reviews assist with design track work and field inspections. The ideal candidate will be a motivated problemsolver who has a background in urban planning architecture or civil engineering with some familiarity with the Americans with Disabilities Act and transportation best practices. Experience in Landscape Architecture and/or Urban Design would also be appropriate. This person should be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications :

For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or closely related field including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than halftime in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed fulltime during their vacation periods.
