About the Role
This handson engineering position focuses on designing and optimizing metal forming processes to support highquality costeffective product manufacturing. With a strong emphasis on cold heading and deep impact extrusion this role integrates product design with process innovation to enhance manufacturability and performance. The ideal candidate will apply mechanical engineering principles design expertise and datadriven problemsolving to drive product success from concept through production.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop tooling for cold forming processes based on product specifications and technical drawings.
- Optimize metal shaping methods such as cold heading and deep impact extrusion to ensure efficiency and product consistency.
- Create and manage detailed engineering documentation including design drawings bills of materials and technical specifications.
- Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 3D modeling and assembly design.
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to prototype test and validate tooling solutions.
- Ensure quality control standards are met through precise tolerancing and material selection.
- Convert 2D blueprints into functional product tooling designs aligned with customer needs.
- Support related manufacturing operations including thread rolling pressing machining and plating.
- Develop multidie bills of materials for complex progressive tooling designs.
- Participate in APQP processes to support product and process quality initiatives.
- Interface with MRP/ERP systems for planning and resource coordination.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in tooling design for cold heading applications.
- Proficiency in progressive cold forming techniques including multidie multiblow methods.
- Working knowledge of deep impact extrusion.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and standard inspection methods.
- Handson experience with die fabrication and polishing machinery.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
Desired Qualifications:
- 12 years of direct experience in deep impact extrusion processes.
- Experience working with copper and aluminum in cold forming operations.
- Background in secondary processing including thread rolling pressing and precision machining.
- Familiarity with plating operations and their impact on coldformed components.
- Experience developing multidie BOMs for advanced tooling setups.
- Prior work in fastener manufacturing or related precision forming industries.
- Understanding of APQP quality planning practices.
- Experience with MRP/ERP systems in a manufacturing environment.
