Job Description
Group Legal sits within the Office of the CEO and is responsible for providing and coordinating the provision of legal services required by the Bank.
Due to recent changes to this function we have a newly created senior leadership position available for a Head of Group Legal. Reporting into the Chief of Staff and General Counsel youll play a critical role leading a team that deliver both operational and strategic legal services. Youll be responsible for protecting the Banks integrity and reputation via a range of administrative governance regulatory and compliance support services.
Engaging across the Bank with other senior leaders to support group business units with strategic projects corporate transactions as well as compliance with a range of legal and regulatory obligations. Youll be a trusted expert providing advice on complex legal and governance matters making recommendations and representing the business in relevant forums.
This is your chance to step into a senior leadership role where your advice and decisions will influence the General Counsel Executive team and the Board.
This role can be based in either Melbourne Adelaide or Bendigo. We offer flexible work options that put our people first and a hybrid model with a minimum requirement of 40% of your time per week in the office increasing to 60% as of July 2025.
What youll bring to the role
- A law degree with additional postgraduate qualifications preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated significant previous experience practicing law and member of applicable legal practice board
- Strong knowledge and understanding of the banking and financial services sector particularly statutory and regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated capabilities leading a business unit or function including P&L responsibility
- Expert engagement and influencing skills both internally and externally at senior and board level
- Significant capability to develop and implement strategic business plans
