POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Tech III acts as a lead to support the Pharmacy Technicians to coordinate pharmacy technician activities including scheduling assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow. Ensures availability and delivery of medications to authorized locations/personnel. Maintain indate inventory of medications. Obtain accurate patient medication history. Prepare and repackage medications accurately. Record and charge supplies/medications to correct patient/location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Training and development of staff: onboarding new technicians providing ongoing training and evaluating competency
- Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Complies with all requirements related to risk management safety security fire and infection control. Complies with all applicable state local and federal regulations
- Answers phones
- Attend pharmacy staff meetings/inservices
- Checkin and stock orders Reorder as required
- Credit returned meds
- Deliver controlled substances
- Deliver Meds/Rounds on hourly or as needed basis
- Enter charges for manual billing needs
- Fill meds to be checked by Staff Pharmacists
- Inspect medication storage locations
- Inventory and refill Floor Stock Automated Dispensing Cabinets and Emergency Trays
- Maintain organized/accurate/sufficient inventory
- Maintain safetyintegrityprofessionalism of pharmacy
- Obtain accurate home medication histories by chart review patient interview and phone calls to retail pharmacies and physician offices
- Prepare Accurate/Sterile IV orders
- Repackage medications insure proper authorization
- Assist the pharmacy management to complete special projects as assigned. Special projects include but not limited to the following:
- Automated dispensing cabinets inventory optimization
- Pharmacy application and system implementation
- Controlled substance documentation review
- Automated dispensing cabinets quality assurance such as discrepancy investigations
- Conduct monthly medication area inspections for all nursing care units procedural areas and clinics
- Assist the designated pharmacist to perform monthly hospital unit inspection
- Act as the primary pharmacy technician trainer
- Serve as the primary back up pharmacy buyer in the absence of the pharmacy buyer
- Provide suggestions for improvement in workflow efficiencies
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Active California Pharmacy Technician license (Certification preferred)
- Bachelors degree required.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Hospital pharmacy experience required
- Sterile compounding experience required
- Demonstrated communication project management and computer literacy skills
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities and perform in in highpressure situations
- Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications BD Pyxis medication management system and
- Logistics Software
