The Director of Manufacturing Engineering is a key leadership role within PSEMC. The incumbent will be responsible for leading the Manufacturing and Equipment Engineering team and ensure that the program teams and manufacturing operations are fully supported in the areas of: 1) process design validation and improvement 2) manufacturing documentation and manufacturing floor support and 3) tooling and manufacturing equipment. Partner with the program teams design engineering and manufacturing operations to ensure manufacturing processes and equipment are optimized to meet safety quality delivery and cost requirements. Interface with customers through process quality and program technical reviews.
Responsibilities include:
Provide management oversight and leadership for the Manufacturing and Equipment Engineering team.
Collaborate with Design Engineering Quality and Operations to ensure that appropriate tools are applied (i.e. PFMEA) to ensure manufacturability and productivity targets are achieved.
Partner with Design Engineering to formulate new processes for new products.
Develop and improve manufacturing processes and tooling design/control to minimize variation.
Manage manufacturing work instruction development maintenance and control (to include migration to Electronic Work Instructions).
Establish repeatable process for specialty manufacturing equipment identification specification setup and maintenance.
Apply lean principles to achieve continuous improvement in the areas of process quality cost manufacturing throughput and firstpassyield.
Coordinate assessment and implementation of mistakeproofing (pokeyoke) methodology.
Develop core competency and subject matter experts in special processes (industry standard and PSEMC specific) and associated process control techniques. Share best practices across PSEMC facilities.
Develop and crosstrain associates to build bench strength and organizational flexibility.
Create a culture that stresses manufacturing floor support and teamwork as the priority.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or technical discipline Masters degree a plus.
5 years management experience leading a technical team.
10 years of demonstrated expertise in the application of Manufacturing Engineering principles.
Significant aerospace products manufacturing experience in a lowvolume highmix environment.
Experience with Fortive Business System (FBS) Toyota Production System or other continuous improvement system with demonstrated results using Lean and/or Six Sigma principles.
Demonstrated results using PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
Excellent verbal and written communication and effective facilitation skills.
Strong working knowledge of ERP systems and reporting tools MS Office and MS Project.
