This is a Stanford Health Care job.A Brief OverviewLocated in the heart of Silicon Valley Stanford Medicine is a world class healthcare system whose mission is to heal humanity through science and compassion one patient at a time. The Planning Design Construction (PDC) department plays a key role to help Stanford Medicine accomplish this mission by managing and delivering capital projects from new clinics and renovations of existing clinics to new stateoftheart hospital renovations and expansions on time on budget and on schedule. Stanford Medicines Planning Design Construction department supports three hospital entities; Stanford Healthcare (SHC) Lucile Packard Childrens Health (LPCH) and SHCValleyCare (VC); two medical foundations; University Healthcare Alliance (UHA) and Packard Childrens Health Alliance (PCHA) a blood center network and several ancillary entities and relationships operating in the San Francisco Bay Area and surrounding markets. This mix includes a Level One trauma center a high acuity Childrens Hospital and two stateoftheart cancer centers as well as a full complement of health services and service lines spread out across seven million square feet of facilities five primary hubs and over 100 smaller locations. The larger Stanford Academic Medical Center includes the Stanford University School of Medicine with renown research and teaching faculties. The Stanford Medicine environment is fastpaced and techsavvy a collaborative culture focusing on goals metrics and continuous Medicines PDC Capital Projects range from minor upgrades to complex projects working with critical infrastructure that must coexist in an operational 24/7 healing environment. Projects last from months to multiple years. Budgets range from a few thousand dollars to one billion dollars. Over the next five to seven years the capital outlay is expected to be approximately four billion recently developed Executive Director of Design and Construction role is a senior leadership position that plans oversees integrates and inspires the work and strategic direction of PDCs Capital Project Directors and Construction Directors and their respective teams partners and peers. Working closely with the Vice President of Planning Design & Construction the Executive Director of Design and Construction will oversee the core business of PDC translating long range planning into project execution and timely delivery by guiding the project through design and construction teams to successful and sustainable ideal Executive Director candidate will be an experienced handson manager accustomed to leading dynamic and diverse technical teams with a proven track record managing engineering and architectural projects in sophisticated medical environments. This individual will be skillful at interacting with the organizations leaders (CSuites and respective service line and support function Vice Presidents) Faculty and staff in a responsive diplomatic patient and collaborative manner without losing sight of budget scope and schedule objectives while navigating a dynamic world.

What you will do- In close collaboration with the Vice President and PDC management team develop and oversee strategic direction and set goals for PDC projects construction fiscal year budgets and crossdepartmental processes. Execute and deliver on key project management metrics including scope schedule and budget.
- Direct team of approximately seven Directors and related teams responsible for various capital project and construction programs throughout Stanford Medicine hubs and spokes including the San Francisco Peninsula the South Bay and the East Bay regions.
- Oversee departmental framework for capital project programs including planning interface process improvement change management audits compliance education and training. Respond to Internal Audit findings as needed.
- Oversee the preparation of project budgets and departmental operating costs within the guidelines and parameters established by the Chief Financial Officers of each entity and agreed to by the Vice President of PD&C.
- Utilize best management practices overseeing the execution of projects within approved multiyear capital plans in adherence to various departmental policies and procedures.
- Develop and maintain reporting and analytic tools that timely support and advise senior management teams including each entity CSuite and its Board of Directors.
- Create successful partnerships within and across Stanford entities Stanford School of Medicine Stanford University Stanford Faculty Physicians Department Chairs and Division Chiefs.
- Develop and maintain successful relationships with local municipalities and other outside jurisdictional agencies such as the Office of Statewide Planning and Development (OSHPD/HCAI) City and County Planning Departments as well as other regulatory safety licensing and industry related entities.
- Assure compliance with applicable laws building codes energy and sustainability guidelines and standards of good practice governing the safety of hospitals and outpatient facilities throughout the department.
- Establish and maintain customer service initiatives applicable to the various capital construction programs (i.e. CICare PCares etc.). Design and develop processes to measure customer satisfaction.
- Support the Vice President PDC with specific tasks relating to Campus Master Planning ongoing Project Management and specialized projects as needed.
- Assist in establishing organizational goals and performance metrics with the Vice President of PD&C administer the annual incentive compensation program for subordinate Directors Senior Project Managers and Project Managers.
- Actively participate in various campus disaster preparedness (i.e. Earthquake Preparedness) and recovery programs as it relates to facilities coordination.
- Oversee the annual SOS (Stanford Operating System) Plan and dashboard reporting as assigned by the Vice President PDC consistent with goals and objectives of all entities.
- Direct process that develops reviews revises and approve contracts and invoices for architects engineers contractors vendors for assigned capital project contracts. Participate in negotiating final construction and professional service provider contracts and Owner Controlled Insurance Program (OCIP).
- Identify and institute goals to continuously improve the benchmarking systems that forecast costs for individual and multiple projects across entities.
- Coordinate an outreach program to communicate policies procedures and priorities of project management services to clients served by the department.
- Participate in regularly scheduled management meetings with team members.
- Actively support the design and implementation of information systems to improve departmental or organization wide processes including PDCs rollout of PMWeb and other software applications.
- Ensure master schedules are accurate and effective through integration of available design professional and contractor provided schedules rigorous reviews.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications- Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
- Bachelors Degree in engineering architecture health or public administration business management or directly related work experience in the specialty area assigned.
- Masters degree and/or professional licensure in engineering architecture health or public administration business or construction management or a related field strongly encouraged.
Experience Qualifications- Bachelors degree and at least fifteen (15) years of directly related work experience with progressive responsibility including five (5) years supervisory responsibility OR
- Masters degree and ten (10) years of directly related work experience with progressive responsibility including three (3) years of supervisory responsibility.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $115.64 $153.23 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
