Job Description
For Water Street Mission to fulfill its mission and purpose it is critical for all staff to participate in the development and maintenance of a healthy Christian Community. By living out our faith with one another and creating a space where our guests are invited to experience that community with us we participate in lives being restored. Even as some positions have minimal direct contact with guests each staff member has an essential role in forming and maintaining Christian community. The love of Christ evidenced in our Water Street community is the real impetus for change with our guests.
Job Summary: Provide direct support to guests in WSHS Recuperative Care (RC) by assisting the manager and nurse team providing transportation and social checkins. Perform basic medical tasks when needed and support guests to meet their health goals. This role would encompass similar duties and responsibilities as a certified medical assistant and community health worker.
FLSA: Fulltime (40 hours) nonexempt Monday Friday 11a730p
All Water Street Mission staff must be:
- Willing to sign the Water Street Missions Statement of Faith.
- A current and active member and/or regular attendee of a local church.
- Able to fully support the Water Street Missions core values and ministry philosophy.
- Provide orientation of WSM and Recuperative Care services for new guests.
- Develop rapport and a supportive therapeutic relationship with guests to encourage them to meet their health goals and foster a healing environment.
- Obtain basic vital signs and assist in triaging next steps regarding medical events when needed.
- Provide transportation to and from medical and social service appointments.
- Provide Recuperative Care administrative support.
- Assist with restocking supplies in Recuperative Care rooms.
- Deliver meals for guests when needed.
- Maintain a traumainformed approach to care and interactions with guests.
- Collaborate with and support WSM life coach and social services team.
- Document promptly and appropriately in Salesforce and/or EPIC.
- Assist with room cleaning laundry and trash removal on a regular basis and as needed.
- Provide warmhand off referrals to other staff (internally or externally) whenever possible.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Role Specific Responsibilities
Education and Experience: High School graduate/GED or equivalent training and/or experience for job responsibilities desired. Driving license required. Experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or substance use strongly preferred. Ease of speaking to others and building rapport. Strong computer skills. Certified medical assistant or similar training preferred. Spanishspeaking is preferred.
Required training on hire (provided by WSM):
- CPR and Narcan administration
- Mental Health First Aid
- QPR suicide prevention
- Online training courses from NIMRC as directed by supervisor
- EPIC and Salesforce training
- Motivational Interviewing course
- q Be able and willing to share the Gospel and participate in the ministry activities of Water Street Mission.
- q Subscribe to the Water Street Mission Statement of Faith and Qualifications of Employment upon hire and continuously while employed.
- q Adhere to the Water Street Mission Employee Handbook.
