This is a temporary position. Applications will be considered from residents and nonresidents of Colorado.

About the Division of Youth Services:

The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and nonresidential services that encompass juvenile detention commitment and parole. DYS is the agency statutorily mandated to provide for the care and supervision of youth committed by the District Court to the custody of the Colorado Department of Human Services. The Division operates 15 secure facilities that serve youth between the ages of 10 and 21 who are preadjudicated sentenced or committed. The Division also contracts with numerous private residential and nonresidential service providers throughout the State. For preadjudicated youth the Division is also responsible for the management and oversight of Senate Bill 9194; a Statefunded locally administered program that provides services to youth at risk of further progressing into the juvenile justice system. In addition to residential programming the Division administers juvenile parole services throughout the State.

It is the mission of the Division of Youth Services to protect restore and improve public safety through a continuum of services and programs that: Effectively supervise juvenile offenders promote offender accountability to victims and communities and build skills and competencies of youth to become responsible citizens. Job Duties:

Classroom Management. Establishes and maintains an appropriate classroom setting through the use of effective classroom management skills. Assesses new and continuing students. Delivers lesson plans as designed by permanent instructor. For longterm substitution of the regular classroom teacher prepares daily and unit lesson plans that are aligned with state standards. Implements a variety of research based education strategies (including technology) to accommodate multiage/multilevel students. Designs and implements a variety of assessment tools to evaluate students progress that correlate to standards based education.

Implementation & Goals.Meets informally and in scheduled meetings with the principal and other teachers to review student and school progress. Develop comprehensive plans for implementation of the subject matter in the line with the education goals. Participates in professional and staff safety development.

Data & Student Advisory. Performs other school related assignments as necessary such as but not limited to student staffing entering data into trails and other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Minimum Qualifications Substitutions Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Substitution:
  • Two years of study at an accredited institution (equivalent to 48 semester hours) will substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics through a formal state or local academic assessment (e.g. ACT WorkKeys) will substitute for the degree requirement but a high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required if using this substitution.
Preferred qualifications:
  • Substitute teaching license
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Sheets.
  • Selfstarter
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with high school aged youth

  • Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • The Diana Screen a sexual risk screening tool is administered to all applicants to the Division of Youth Services (DYS) seeking positions of trust with children and teens to help ensure that ethical boundaries between children and adults are maintained. At the DYS the safety and protection of the youth who have been entrusted to us is our #1 priority.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of the DYS Preservice Training Academy Field Training Program (FTO) and mandatory annual training in all subject areas.
  • Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must (1) disclose that information on the application (2) provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position (3) provide the employee number from the applicants prior State employment. Absent extraordinary circumstances prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination and failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
