Job Description

Governance and Risk Officer

Drive governance excellence and risk management in a meaningful role within the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference where your expertise will help shape compliance safeguard best practices and support the mission of the Church.

$130000 per annum plus superannuation. Full or part time salary pro rata

The Role

The Governance and Risk Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the Chief Operating Officer and the Risk Council in managing governance risk and compliance across the Conference. You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting governance processes including corporate entity management and policy development.
  • Providing strategic advice on governance risk and compliance matters.
  • Developing and maintaining a Compliance Management System to mitigate risk and ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Leading the Risk Management Framework identifying and addressing risks across the Conference.
  • Assisting with insurance renewals and claim management in collaboration with managers and brokers.
  • Ensuring best practices in safeguarding work health and safety and risk mitigation.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce Finance Economics Legal or a related discipline.
  • Company Secretary and/or Directorship experience with the notforprofit space
  • Minimum 5 years experience in compliance risk management internal audit or legal fields.
  • Strong knowledge of governance compliance and risk management standards
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • An understanding of the structure of the Catholic Church.
  • Postgraduate studies or a Certified Compliance Professional (CCP) designation would be highly regarded.
