Working to protect the states environment and heritage
Two key roles leading and managing highly committed and cohesive teams implementing park management programs across a variety of national parks and reserves in the Riverina and Lower Darling regions.
About the roles
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) manages over 50 national parks and reserves in the Riverina and Lower Darling regions. IncludingCocoparra Kalyarr Mungo Murray Valley Murrumbidgee Valley Oolambeyan Willandra and Yanga National Parks.
The MurrayRiverina region is full of adventure and activity for all ages such as camping fishing picnicking and boating and includes large stands of River Red Gums.
The Lower Darling region boasts the magnificent lunette Walls of China in Mungo National Park and other dry lakes in the World Heritage listed Willandra Lakes Region.
Both Areas are involved in managing water resources including flows that support significant vegetation communities and threatened and protected species. Both Areas include numerous important Aboriginal cultural heritage sites and require skills in Aboriginal community engagement and cultural heritage management including joint management.
The Area Managers are relied upon to lead large teams and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders across national parks and reserves to implement and deliver critical park management programs visitor services and infrastructure management and translate strategies into operational outcomes for the NSW Government. Youll oversee 30 plus staff in either location.
These pivotal and highly rewarding roles require strong financial and project management skills to effectively deliver critical insurance works. As one of 4 Area Managers working closely with the West Branch Director youll be integral in helping to lead the protection and conservation of some of the most precious national parks in NSW. As part of your responsibilities you will also work closely with Aboriginal Joint Management Boards so your previous experience communicating collaborating and negotiating successfully with external stakeholders will be important in this role. About you
We are looking for highly experienced strategic relatable leaders with a strong collaborative nature and operational acumen to successfully lead a large team including field staff rangers project and administration staff who work across different locations. You will be a highly skilled communicator who can effectively lead change and deliver high performance. You will have previous management experience leading a multidisciplinary team within a protected area system environment or related field with a focus on leadership and service delivery and effectiveness.
