Caterpillar is seeking a Fabrications Manufacturing Engineering Manager in Sanford NC. In this role you will guide and develop a team of Planning and Manufacturing Engineers to achieve safety goals capacity requirements product cost and quality commitments.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Provide Technical Expertise and Support for current Fabrications processes including manual and robotic welding as well as part assembly.
  • Lead the Planning and Manufacturing Engineering team to achieve safety goals capacity requirements product cost and quality commitments.
  • Manage Capital projects to achieve goals related to RFI approval spend targets and expense budgets for smaller projects.
  • Ensure that the 5year capital plan positions the Fabrications teams to achieve longterm PQVC (People Quality Velocity and Cost)
  • Coordinates the installation of new machines and equipment and process changes to provide the most efficient and economical manufacture of quality parts.
  • Ensures optimum utilization of equipment and space by coordinating the layout of areas such as storage areas test equipment etc. to accommodate the changing production requirements.
  • Establishes standards and works with shop personnel to resolve problems related to process tooling equipment etc.
  • Supervise a work unit of management and salaried employees where planning scheduling monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering and manufacturing on weld related issues.
  • Work with Product Support to assist with Field Repair Procedures for weld related issues.
  • Conduct and/or review welding related failure analysis.
  • Represent the facility and enterprise on external welding related communities.
  • Process owner for the Facility Weld Quality Plan and owner of the Welding CAV audit for the facility.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the weld quality plan including welder weld process weld equipment and welding material qualifications to Caterpillar Inc standards.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Manufacturing Standards Procedures and Policies: Knowledge of organizational standards procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan guide and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
  • Manufacturing Equipment: Knowledge of the electrical mechanical and logistics equipment used in manufacturing; ability to safely operate maintain update and store them.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decisionmaking process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • Work experience across multiple departments across the facility (i.e. Assembly Fabrications Logistics Engineering Supply Chain Quality etc.)
  • Working knowledge of Burn to shape Forming Machining Fabrication Paint Assembly and Test processes
  • At least 8 years experience evaluating process and technical solutions
  • A bachelors degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • At least 3 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • At least 5 years experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience working with manufacturing systems SAP / SAP ME preferred and managing business processes.
  • Significant Experience with Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma.

$144960.00 $217320.00
