Title: Plumber
Reports to: Director of Building and Grounds and/or designee
Qualifications:
- Experience in plumbing totaling at least five years
- Master Plumber License
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the central office (after employment offer is made.)
- A valid drivers license
- Other alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Purpose and Objectives of the Position:
Performs skilled/full journey level duties under limited supervision to install repair or maintain plumbing (i.e. Water drain and gas) systems in the school district. An incumbent in this position will follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures. On occasion he will have to utilize discretion ingenuity and independent judgment due to the complexity of the job. Since there may be several ways to solve a problem an incumbent is free to choose the solution.
Special Skills Knowledge Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of and ability to perform plumbing work that would pass any City or required plumbing inspections.
- Communication Skills (oral written or business). Basic communication skills to exchange information give/receive simple instructions and respond to inquiries. Includes filling out forms.
- Mathematical Skills: Performs routine computations requiring a knowledge of addition subtraction multiplication and division using whole numbers fractions decimals and/or percentages.
- Reading and Interpreting: Reads and interprets complex written or printed materials such as schematics blueprints building plans charts diagrams maps or instruction material.
- Tools and Equipment Usage (other than keyboards or office machines): Uses tools or equipment with expertise acquired through extensive experience and/or specialized training. The most complex tools or equipment necessary to perform satisfactory include: sewer machine trencher fusion tool torch.
Essential Job Functions:
- Trouble shoots plumbing problems and performs general maintenance and repairs for all boilers hot water tanks steamers heaters dishwashers and related items/devices in the district.
- Installs and repairs gas and waterlines and drains and sewer lines. Checks and repairs gas leaks. Repairs break in underground water and drain lines. May install and repair sprinkler systems.
- Unstops drain lines.
- Installs repairs replaces faucets sinks toilets showers and other plumbing fixtures.
- Winterizes buildings susceptible to damage.
- Performs preventive maintenance on all plumbing (water gas and sewer) equipment fixtures etc. and eliminates severe problems that could be the cause of major down time.
- Informs supervisor of parts equipment and other supplies that are necessary to do job. Keeps necessary parts and supplies on hand for common projects.
- Cleans work area and maintains plumbing shop and tools including assigned vehicle.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to maintain school grounds in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities.

- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.
- Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Ability to operate all equipment and machinery appropriately as necessary.
- Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the district.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires physical exertion to manually move lift carry pull or push heavy objects or materials.
- Ability to manually lift a maximum of 60 pounds.
- Requires stooping kneeling crawling bending turning climbing balancing and reaching.
- Must work indoors and outdoors yearround.
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environment with numerous interruptions.
- Must work in and around dust fumes and odors.
General Responsibilities:
- Ability to assist in maintaining school buildings and grounds in top condition.
- Ability to assist in promoting the safety health and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.
- Ability to maintain a high standard of safety cleanliness and efficiency in all maintenance and repair projects.
- Ability to perform maintenance repair and installation in connection with:
- electrical plumbing and HVAC systems
- exterior and interior of buildings
- school grounds
- Ability to move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.
- Ability to work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.
- Ability to act as a substitute custodian when necessary.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
- Keep current on new information innovative ideas and techniques.
- Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative courteous and timely manner.
- Ability to keep information and records confidential.
- Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
- Ability to perform other duties and assume other responsibilities assigned by the building and grounds supervisor or administrative staff.
Term of Employment: At will.
Pay: Pay will be based on experience. Beginning base pay starts at 24.25an hour and will increase based on certification and experience.
Evaluation: Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education Policy.
