Job Description

Department Overview

This position is expected to develop enhance implement and provide direction for Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to employee supervision education

and training of staff residents interns and students provide leadership and service line development involvement in quality assessment and process improvement and serve as an administrative role model. In

addition they will staff their service area to maintain their competencies in clinical expertise.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Responsible to provide all clinical duties as outlined in the PBM pharmacist position description including but not limited to being the primary point of contact for staff support and escalated issues from members and providersprior authorization review formulary management including drug classreviews/executive summaries response/resolution to clinical inquiries from members and providers coordination with claims processor to implementclinical edits and benefit updates.

  • Supervision of Staff: Recruit hire train develop schedule and supervise assigned staff develop performance standards conduct performance appraisals (PE); and recommend salary increases consistent with Hospitalpolicy and procedures.

  • Program Design & Development: Develop programs strategies facilities and systems for service improvement. Assist in formulary management activities prior authorization criteria DUR Board activities benefit builds and testingsupport. Develop and monitor performance and quality metrics related toservice goals. Participate in the development and implementation of the Department of Pharmacys strategic plan in alignment with the organizations mission vision and values. Prepare and review policies and procedures as necessary to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and operational efficiencies.

  • Process Improvement: Develop new and improved services through constantevaluation and innovation to enhance pharmacy services. Establish bestpractices to improve outcomes. Identify and resolve inefficient workprocesses and opportunities for value analysis.

  • Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate services in assignedareas with other Pharmacy areas nursing areas other Hospital departmentsand external agencies to facilitate service line requirements.

  • Teaching: Coordinate the education and training of pharmacists technicianspharmacy students and residents as applicable. Direct the work ofstudents/residents and monitors and evaluates their performance.

Required Qualifications

  • BS or PharmD in Pharmacy
  • Two years or more of pharmacy leadership experience or residency training
  • State of Oregon Board of Pharmacy licensure
  • Proficiency in an area of clinical pharmacy practice
  • Communication written and verbal
  • Contemporary Practice of Pharmacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Managed care residency advanced degree
  • Managed care PBM or health plan experience applicable to practice

Additional Details

The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management nurses physicians pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals as they attempt to influence clinical decisionmaking clinical policies and practices and work flow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a daily basis. In addition within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress.
