BEHAVIOR SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified Behavior Analyst from an accredited program.
- Experience with students eligible for special education programs and services with skills in communication and consultation.
- Interpersonal skills which promote positive relationships with students parents staff and community.
- Experience with coaching staff members and/or providing quality professional development for staff
- Expertise in identifying the function of behavior developing individual behavior intervention plans and facilitating implementation of developed plans with students and staff
- Skills in data collection and analysis.
- Skills in monitoring implementation fidelity.
- Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s) certificate(s) approval(s) etc. and provide documentation to human resources before the expiration date of said document(s).
- Completed 8 hour supervision training requirement by the BACB to supervise RBTs and potentially practicum BCBA students.
- Required to have a physical presence at the designated site each scheduled workday. Must have regular and reliable job attendance performance and the ability to do the job.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Special Education Supervisor
JOB GOAL:
To support school staff in maximizing student success in the existing program classroom and community settings through direct and indirect involvement in the completion of functional behavior assessments development of positive behavior support plans monitoring of implementation fidelity and the collection and analysis of data.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide written observation reports for students throughout the district and review and analyze student behavioral data with building teams.
- Participate and/or facilitate student problem solving meetings with building teams.
- Collaborate with building team members to develop FBA and BIP.
- Provide on the spot coaching and modeling for staff members on behavioral strategies and implementation.
- Regularly review the effectiveness of the BIP and make recommendations for updates based on students data or any new challenges.
- Develop and deliver targeted training sessions for teachers paraprofessionals and other staff members on topics like behavior management functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and implementation of BIPs.
- Develop training and/or a resource library on effective classroom management techniques addressing the function of behavior and strategies for promoting positive behavior for all students.
- Train staff in how to collect and analyze behavioral data (e.g. frequency duration intensity of behavior) and how to use the data to inform decisionmaking.
- Create data analysis systems that allow school teams to easily track and monitor trends in behavior over time.
- Support building teams to create consistent approaches across all environments (classroom bus playground etc.).
- Serve as a liaison between building teams and administration to provide updates on student behavior supports and behavioral training initiatives.
- Participate in professional organizations at the state and county level to promote RCS and disseminate information to district teams (i.e. Oakland County Autism Network START etc.).
- Follow ethical guidelines and professional standards set by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
- Supervise RBTs and BCBA Practicum students (as outlined by the BACB) in their settings and provide coaching feedback and skill development.
