This position is expected to develop enhance implement and provide direction for outpatient or ambulatory
pharmacy services and initiatives. Responsibilities include but are not limited to employee supervision education and training of staff residents interns and students provide leadership and service line development involvement in quality assessment and process improvement and serve as a administrative rolemodel. In addition they will staff their service area to maintain their competencies in clinical expertise. Theywill serve as a designated PharmacistInCharge for their specific pharmacy operations.
Staffing: Responsible to work and staff as a pharmaict and provide all clinical duties as outlined in the outpatient pharmacist position description. Must be able to supervise and manage staff while also performing the clinical dutiesof an outpatient pharmacist.
Supervision of Staff: Recruits hires trains develops schedules andsupervises assigned staff develops performance standards conductsperformance reviews and coaches their staff for further growth anddevelopment.
Program Design & Development: Development of programs strategiesfacilities and systems for service improvement or expansion in outpatient orambulatory services. Develop and monitor performance and quality metricsrelated to the departmental goals and their specific pharmacy service in the development and implementation of the Department ofPharmacys strategic plan in alignment with the organizations mission vision and values. Prepare and review policies and procedures as necessary to meet or exceed regulatory requirements and operational efficiencies.
Process Improvement: Develops new and improved services withinUniversity Hospital through constant evaluation and innovation to enhancepharmacy services. Establish best practices in their clinical service area toimprove patient care outcomes. Identify and resolve unsafe conditionsinefficient work processes or opportunities for value analysis. Assist inmanaging drug shortages and high cost medications by providing clinicalexpertise related to utilization alternative therapies and impact on service
Departmental Interdisciplinary Coordination: Coordinates services inassigned areas with other Pharmacy areas nursing areas other Hospitaldepartments and external agencies to facilitate continuity of care.
Teaching: Coordinates the education and training of pharmacy studentspharmacy technician students and residents as applicable. Direct the work ofstudents/residents and monitors and evaluates their performance.
The supervisor will experience competing demands from pharmacy management nurses physicianspharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals as they attempt to influence clinical decisionmakingclinical policies and practices and work flow. The supervisor must deal with intense situations on a dailybasis. In addition within the healthcare setting there can be significant lack of control over the work pace with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue orstress.
