General Information:
James Madison Universitys Facilities Management is accepting applications for a Senior Zone Environmentalist. Shift is Monday Friday 6:30 a.m. 3:00 p.m. with overtime as required to cover special events and inclement weather. There is a slightly alternate schedule during the summer months.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of technical and skilled tasks involved in maintaining safe functional and attractive grounds and landscaping at the University in accordance with established schedules and instructions.
Performs and leads the work of others on all regular landscaping tasks such as mowing; trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs; edging; weed eating; sodding; mulching; planting; application of pesticides herbicides and fertilizers; post and sign installation; athletic field maintenance; equipment operation.
Applies and monitors herbicides and pesticides.
Trains all team members to use equipment properly and provide onsite training as needed.
Attends Pesticide turf management and or herbicide classes as directed to stay abreast and knowledgeable in landscape techniques.
Oversees and completes of various special projects on university property.
Employee is required to work all home football games.
The employee in this position will be considered designated meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.
Qualifications:
Required
Working knowledge of general landscaping practices and procedures.
Knowledge of proper handling storage and disposal of pesticides.
Knowledge of turf maintenance and installation.
Ability to do the following: work independently; lead a small group of employees; operate heavy equipment such as mowers dump trucks complex mowers tractors and attachments.
Ability to do physically demanding work for extended periods of time in a variety of environmental conditions.
A Pesticide Registered Technicians License is required within one year of hire into the position.
Must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid drivers license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months.
Additional Considerations
A Certified Fertilizer Applicator License or willingness to obtain the license.
