Job Description

Job Title: Anticipated K5 ELA Instructional Coach *Pending Grant Funding Location: DistrictClass Title: WTA 1.0 FTEEffective Date:08/28/25Salary Range: ContractualHours per week: Full Time

*This position has up to two vacancies

Purpose:The Instructional Coach having both content and instructional expertise will work as a colleague with K5 classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about researchedbased effective instruction for teachers. In order to meet this purpose the Instructional Coach will provide personalized 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers.

Priority grade levels will be determined based on literacy data from universal screeners as well as curriculumbased assessments such as EL Skills Block and EL ALL Block data.

Additionally the coach may be assigned to support one elementary school or grade five at the middle school depending on identified needs.

Supervision Received:Assistant Superintendent Building Principals and ELA District Curriculum Coordinator

General Responsibilities:

  • Participate fully in professional development for coaches including peer observations professional research and reading and inquiry sessions.
  • Provide organized individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
  • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
  • Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data when requested.
  • Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  • Provide support for classroom motivation and management strategies.
  • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with the curriculum.
  • Provide teachers resources related to instruction and curriculum.
  • Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  • Model effective differentiated instruction when requested.
  • Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
  • Develop and maintain a confidential collegial relationship with teachers.
  • Assist teachers in aligning their teaching with appropriate standards curriculum and assessments.
  • Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  • Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
  • Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
  • Assist with implementation of district curriculum instruction and assessments.
  • Provide coaching cycle data monthly time and effort calendar and other pertinent progress monitoring to ELA District Curriculum Coordinator
  • Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics involving students in the classroom observed.
  • Work collaboratively and collegially with other instructional coaches curriculum specialists and district reading specialists.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university
  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
  • Current Rhode Island Teaching License
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Rhode Island ELA content standards
  • Knowledge of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy
  • Experience in researchedbased instructional practices
  • Previous coaching or teacher leadership experience
  • Deep knowledge of and experience in assessment driven instruction (teaching/learning process)
  • Effective communication collaboration and interpersonal skills for building an environment with a common instructional focus promoting initiatives and conveying expectations
  • Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated strength in organization communication skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a positive collaborative member of a team
  • Demonstrated interest and engagement in current educational trends professional learning and reflection

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in a regular education setting grades K5
  • Elementary experience and/or certification Reading Certification experience and/or certification & or Special education experience and/or certification
  • Knowledge and experience with EL Education ELA Curriculum
  • Proficiency in the Science of Reading
  • Masters Degree and/or advanced coursework in Education Literacy or Leadership
