This role reports directly to the OCS Program Manager under limited supervision of a Supervising Insurance Regulatory Analyst. TheInsurance Regulatory Analysts in the Office of Consumer Services play an important role in ensuring the Department of Insurance is able to achieve its mission.
Specifically the Insurance Regulatory Analyst:
Reviews investigates and tracks written complaints & inquiries concerning a variety of insurance policies (this position is ideal for an analyst specializing in Property and Casualty (P&C) insurance issues including auto homeowners personal lines commercial and workers compensation insurance policies).
Responds to consumer needs relating to P&C and Life Accident & HealthLA&H products; provides market assistance by helping to identify hardtoplace insurance coverage within the insurance market.
Assists multiple entities including State government agencies as well as consumers following a catastrophic event.
Provides training assistance and mentoring to other Department staff.
Represents the Department at public outreach events and educational forums which may take place in the evenings & weekends and may require occasional travel.
Serves as back up support to the Office of Consumer Services administrative staff specifically will assist the Program Coordinator with the assignment of written complaints and inquiries.Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelors degree or at least three (3) years experience as a Licensed Insurance Producer or Insurance Customer Service Representative servicing P&C and/orLA&H insurance products. Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Licensed Producer or Insurance Customer Service Representative servicing both P&C and LA&H products.
- Direct experience with flood insurance and catastrophe management.
- Knowledge of applicable state insurance laws rules and regulations and civil and federal laws.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques and principles and practices of the insurance industry including underwriting and claims.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Comments
Must have the ability to present clear concise and comprehensive written & oral reports. A writing sample will be required. Ability to analyze facts and reach sound conclusions. Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships with the public insurers and industry representatives. Ability to respond professionally in all situations. Strong computer skills (ability to complete intermediatelevel tasks in Access Excel Publisher and other Microsoft Office and Adobe programs). The ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment. Must be able to multitask meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects. Expertise knowledge and experience or educational training in the programs functions and activities of the insurance industry in South Carolina.
Educational Credentials:

Disaster Response:
This position is considered essential in the event of an emergency or major disaster. Incumbent is required to participate in emergency or major disaster response activities as outlined in the DOI Disaster Response Plan. During such times the incumbent should regard himself/herself as being on 24hour call and subject to duty when such an event occurs or is anticipated to occur.
