The Opportunity:
Under general supervision performs basic microbiological analysis; which includes: cultivation isolation microscopy and performance of tests to identify pathogenic bacteria fungi parasites and viruses in tissues and/or body fluids exudates skin scraping feces necropsy and surgical specimens or environmental samples to diagnose infectious diseases of animals. Processes samples orders tests inCOFL(medical database system) and sets up microbiologic assays for the detection of infectious agents in animals. Eligibility and understanding ofBSL2 andBSL3 laboratory safety guidelines and work environment is required.

This is a full time (100% FTE) permanent position. This position is overtime eligible.
Monthly Salary: $4410 to $5929 Range 50 (Steps AM) Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 35728.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelors degree in chemistry biology microbiology biochemistry zoology or a related science; OR equivalent education/experience.
Physical eligibility required for working in aBSL2 andBSL3 environment. See the following link for more information. to follow the safety protocols as described by the University the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory.

Preferred Qualifications:
Education to include at least 10 semester credit hours or 15 quarter credit hours in microbiology.
One or more years work experience in a microbiology lab.
Familiarity with veterinary medicine.
Experience with medical or laboratory database.
Experience in sterile technique and handling biological specimens.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills.
