Job Description

POSITION TITLE: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Bachelors degree in Journalism or Marketing preferred
  • A minimum of eight years experience in related field
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and PageMaker

REPORTS TO: Superintendent of Schools

JOB GOAL: To positively communicate District initiatives and educational plans to patrons parents student and employees.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serve as liaison officer between the District and news media print and nonprint and supervise the production and distribution of all news releases.
  2. Coordinate press conferences for news events and board meetings.
  3. Oversee inclement weather communication as needed.
  4. Serve as a member of the Superintendents cabinet assisting with critical districtrelated decisions.
  5. Design and write advertisements and develop and distribute the annual District Calendar/Handbook and the annual District report to the public.
  6. Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that sets clear goals and defines timelines and strategies to achieve them making highest use of staff talents communications tool and the departments overall capacity.
  7. Maintain a clear focus and creative approach to achieve missioncritical initiatives while also managing and prioritizing the daily demands upon the office; connect individual tasks or small opportunities to larger communications framework and mission.
  8. Develop relationships with other district leaders offices and schools to ensure that communications strategies and support are integrated into planning and implementation of all major initiatives.
  9. Provide training and counsel to district and school leaders and the School Board in the areas of media relations and effective communication strategies.
  10. Manage all internal and external communications including website content publications multimedia presentations news releases speeches and written policies.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary Range: Range 15 Support Staff Daily Salary Schedule ($337.79/day $475.02/day depending on relevant experience)

Length of Contract: 244 contract days

FLSA Status: Exempt

Personnel Status: Classified

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
