Job Description

St. Mary Academy Bay View has an immediate opening for a Head Coach for its Girls Varsity Basketball School:St. Mary Academy Bay View is an allgirls independent Mercy Catholic college preparatory school serving a diverse population of girls from PreK through Grade 12 located in Riverside Rhode Island. A sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas St. Mary Academy Bay View fosters academic excellence in an innovative and creative learning environment while striving to empower each student to be a confident independent compassionate and socially conscious faithfilled young Overview:The Varsity Head Coach for Girls Basketball plans directs and supervises all aspects of the Varsity Basketball Program in accordance with the RIIL Athletic Department and school policies. S/he oversees the physiological and skill development of studentathletes in the program. Further s/he develops each student participant to maximum potential in a program of skill learning and improvements. The Head Coach reports to the Director of Athletics in liaison with the Upper School Principal. The basketball season runs from December to March. Practices are typically five to six days after school with practice times around 4:006:00 p.m. or 4:306:30 p.m. with two to three games a week at 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. Examples of Key Duties and Responsibilities:Assume responsibility for organizing coaching and administering the full Varsity Basketball Program;Follow the policies and procedures in the Athletic Handbook;Follow sound coaching practices in teaching all skills including aspects of health and safety;Assume responsibility for equipment inventory;Enforce disciplined and sportsmanlike behavior;Promote and encourages maximum student participation and behavior;Provide leadership and guidance to the Assistant Coach;Develop game plans which are flexible and adaptable to changing game strategies; andAssume responsibility for the endofseason Knowledge Skills and Abilities:Qualifications: Dedication to the school studentathlete and to the Athletic Program;Comprehensive knowledge of the sport and the ability to demonstrate and teach individual skills;Ability to motivate the studentathlete to maximum potential;Professional in appearance and actions;Prior experience as a Varsity Basketball Head Coach or Collegiate playing experience preferred; NFHS Certified or willingness to become certified including CPR/First Aid/AED; andThe candidate will be required to pass a national background check with Apply:Visit and download the NonTeaching Application.
