Occupational Summary
The Camp Nurse is a key team member for CDMs Friends Discovery Camp (FDC) during the following dates: June 26 2025; June; July. They support the medical needs of campers while attending FDC including but not limited to: administering routine medication using/monitoring feeding tubes responding to digital diabetes monitors transferring in/out of wheelchairs and assisting with restroom and clothes change needs monitoring and having general awareness of children at risk of seizures while at camp and allergy point person.
The Camp Nurse participates in day camps alongside CDM staff and collegeage buddies in a mutually supporting teambased environment. The ideal candidate will have a passion for serving children with disabilities (1st8th grade) and align with our vision of providing an accessible camp experience for all.
This position may be filled by any licensed nurse (LPN RN BSN).
Duties & Responsibilities Preparation & Communication
- Prepares for each week of camp by reviewing camper information communicating with caregivers as needed and preparing any supplies that are needed. Any supplies that will need to be purchased should be communicated to the VP of Education.
- Ensures compliance with established health guidelines safety and infection control procedures and all other applicable laws rules regulations standards practices policies and procedures.
- Dispenses prescribed medications appropriately to campers. Maintains appropriate medical records regarding all dispensation of medication.
- Provides routine and emergency medical care to campers within the prescribed boundaries of training certification and applicable policies and procedures and according to individual differences and diagnoses.
- Monitors inventory of department equipment and supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities. Communicates equipment and supply needs to VP of Education.
- Maintains current license as a LPN RN or BSN after employment.

Education & Experience
- Fouryear degree with coursework emphasis in Nursing preferred; supplemented by three (3) years previous experience and/or training involving nursing preferably in a school pediatric adolescent or public health environment; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
- Must possess and maintain licensure as an LPN RN BSN in Tennessee.
- Must possess and maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities Required
- Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with campers museum staff parents and other stakeholders.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee nursing license or a compact state license.
- Ability to utilize a computer or tablet and other technology in order to enter and retrieve data.
- Works well with children and children with acute chronic illnesses injuries handicapping conditions and developmental disabilities.

Camp Nurse Contract Hours
Up to 4 hours in preparation. The timing may be determined by the Nurse and may be up front between camp weeks or a combination.
