A Journeyman Shop Carpenter specializes in creating custom commercial woodwork including casework countertops solid surface fabrication custom assemblies and possibly finishing. They are skilled craftsmen who follow detailed instructions from shop drawings and the production supervisor to efficiently manufacture the product.

SPECIAL UNION NOTE: If not already a Journeyman Member of the Carpenters Union the employee will undergo a subjective evaluation within the first 90 days to determine if they are qualified to enter the union as a Journeyman Carpenter or not. If not the employee may be required to complete the fouryear apprenticeship program at the applicable apprentice level pay and benefit scale. In some circumstances this may be expedited but not all.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Read and comprehend detailed shop drawings to manufacture custom architectural woodwork on time and under budget.
- Manufacturing of Custom Architectural Woodwork Products such as:
- Custom plastic laminate and wood cabinets / casework
- Custom plastic laminate countertops
- Custom desks (reception desks nurse stations etc)
- Custom benches banquettes etc.
- Wall paneling (plastic laminate wood veneer etc)
- Custom solid surface work (countertops thermoforming paneling etc)
- Other complex custom woodworking products
- Custom painting and woodwork finishing
- Employee is not expected to be proficient in all areas but may be cross trained and previous cross training is a plus.
- Operate a variety of woodworking machinery and hand tools including table saws miter saws routers sanders and others ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
- Maintain a clean organized and safe work environment by performing regular cleaning and maintenance of tools equipment and workstations.
- Perform quality control checks on completed projects to ensure they meet Giffin Interiors high standards of craftsmanship and functionality.
- Possibly assist in the loading and unloading of materials & manage inventory.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot any issues that arise during the production process making necessary adjustments to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Continuously strive to learn new skills and techniques to contribute to the overall success of the team.
- Other duties / responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the company.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma GED or higher
- Comfortable reading and understanding architectural and shop drawings
- Three or more years of experience in woodworking manufacturing or construction preferred
- Critical Thinking and Problem Solving
- Demonstrate attention to detail maintain focus and follow through in completing work tasks
- Ability to maintain a sense of urgency and complete assigned tasks within deadlines.
