Job Description

Job Summary

The Running Start College Navigator will assist the director of concurrent enrollment and is responsible for providing enrollment and retention assistance to students attending Wenatchee Valley College on the Omak campus specializing in the Running Start and Career and Technical Education programs.

Essential Functions

Advising and Assisting Students:

  • Assist all students with an emphasis on Running Start students in the development of academic and career goals course selection and the development of individualized educational plans.
  • Advise students concerning college admissions requirements college transfer and professional/technical programs.
  • Collaborate with appropriate college departments and staff to coordinate and implement admission testing orientation and registration of Running Start students.
  • Maintain Running Start student files track report and followup on Running Start students and Running Start activities.
  • Conduct intake advising and registration of new Running Start students to Wenatchee Valley College.
  • Manage the book loan fund and data entry for all Wenatchee campus Running Start students.
  • Develop and enhance all marketing materials that will be dispersed to the college high schools and community.
  • Communicate with and track students regarding academic progress and assist with campus resources.
  • Provide welcoming and helpful environment for students.
  • Assist with frequent communications to students via a variety of technologies including text alerts emails and phone calls.

Outreach and Events:

  • Conduct outreach visits and presentations/orientations at WVC Running Start feeder schools in the evenings.
  • Act as a liaison for Wenatchee Valley College with high school personnel students and parents regarding information on the Running Start program including admission requirements policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate PowerPoint presentations and workshops for Running Start students and parents.
  • Communicate and work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Assist with activities to measure the effectiveness of outreach and orientation.
  • Serve on college committees and assist with representation at community educational and outreach events.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Demonstrated experience with speaking/presentations.
  • Demonstrated experience building working relationships with high school counselors and administrators.
  • Or if you do not meet one or more of qualifications listed above but have an applicable combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Customer Service: Knowledge of customer service skills and best practices with ability to provide general and specialized student support with professional courtesy empathy and interest in positive problem solving.
  • Oral communication: Speak clearly and persuasively actively listen and take the time to understand the points being made including asking questions as appropriate and responding to questions.
  • Quality: Accurate and thorough look for ways to improve and promote quality provide feedback to improve performance monitor own work to ensure quality.
  • Professionalism: Approach others in a tactful manner react well under pressure treat others with respect and consideration and follow through on commitments.
  • Problem solving: Ability to assess situations and think beyond the immediate issue to anticipate and fulfill future needs before they become complications.
  • Diversity equity and inclusion: Demonstrated competency and experience working in a diverse academic environment inclusive of students faculty and staff of varying social economic cultural ideological gender and racial/ethnic backgrounds and those with physical emotional and/or learning disabilities.
  • Technical/computer skills: High level of proficiency and accuracy in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Canvas PeopleSoft and other college systems; ability to be cross trained to provide basic technical support.
  • Student services: Knowledge of college processes such as admissions enrollment and financial aid; ability to be cross trained to provide student services support.
  • FERPA: Maintain a high level of confidentiality and follow FERPA guidelines.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:

This is a fulltime overtimeeligible exempt position contracted on an annual basis.

The starting salary hiring range for this position is $55000 to $60683. Individual placement within the hiring range is based on the candidates current experience education skills and abilities related to the position. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the fiscal year.
