The primary role of the Central Scheduler is to schedule patients for appointments and procedures at dates in the future for designated areas within the Medical facility. The Central Scheduler performs patient care activities and other unit tasks as delegated by the department Manager/Director to support the interdisciplinary care team.Job Description:
JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES
Department Process
Provides nonjudgmental care towards all patients regardless of lifestyle race religion or beliefs
Clarifies duties with Director/ Manager throughout the day
Demonstrates good time management / organizational skills by the end of the shift
Completes clerical / unit activities by the end of the shift
Demonstrates the ability to handle the assigned workload within shift limits
Offers assistance to others as time allows in order to complete all work assignments on unit
Demonstrates flexibility in compliance with staffing and other unit work routines
Participates in unit performance improvement process as assigned
Participates in maintaining safe working environment for patient / colleagues
Scheduling Process
Coordinates scheduling of surgical cases and other procedures as to date time surgical suite
Coordinates scheduling in ancillary units lab pathology Cardiopulmonary Rehab Speech .
Collects all pertinent data from physicians office personnel and enters it into the system
Screens patient to ensure they are candidates for procedures
Contacts patient day prior to scheduled procedures to confirm appointments
Demonstrates knowledge regarding types of procedures to ensure appropriate time allowed on schedule
Demonstrates knowledge of prerequisites of all procedures preps hydration NPO..
Works with proceduralist to ensure proper level loading is occurring. Daily and weekly
Coordinates physicians requests for specific procedural time and date or offers alternatives
Informs management of scheduling conflicts in timely manner
Updates Procedural schedule on an ongoing basis
Updates departments and staff as changes occur
Informs all concerned departments promptly when case are added to the daily elective schedule
Assists in the coordination of interpretive services arrival of patients to deparatments

Manages multiple priorities systematically keeping team members informed of the plan
Is selfdirected resolving minor problems on own and if unable utilizes chain of command

Seeks validation/guidance when necessary to clarify job duties
Consults Director/Manager when seeking solutions to problems
Communicates requested changes in scheduling or special needs to appropriate staff and or department
Deals with interpersonal conflicts directly and in private reporting irreconcilable differences and unprofessional behavior to Director / Manager in an appropriate and timely manner
Initiates activities when volumes are low within the unit
Demonstrate support for team members to ensure the team accomplishes goals.

Problem solves independently at their level escalates when necessary
Clinical Technical Skills
Demonstrates ability to operate all equipment required to perform job safely per manufacture guidelines and hospital policy
Maintains a safe uncluttered working environment (patient rooms nursing station) ensures all egresses are easily accessible
Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the computerized scheduler
Logs Procedural cases accurately and completely
Special equipment requests
Data collection
Printing / distribution of procedural schedules as required during down time
Processes patient change information accurately
Enters patient / procedural charges
Reports concerns that impact safe patient unit operations to Director/Manager
Maintains department specific skills
Communication
Communicates using lines of authority as appropriate to ensure quality patient care
Answers phone calls courteously and timely
Accurately takes and delivers phone messages
Places phone calls to physicians as requested by management in an efficient and timely manner
Establishes positive rapport with patients families/support systems physicians and coworkers
Communicates with patients family/support systems in a positive professional manner answers questions as needed
Utilizes closed loop communication to ensure messages are received and acknowledged to ensure safe patient care
Demonstrates courteous oral/telephone skills

EDUCATION
Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.
HS Diploma or equivalent education/experience
Associates
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:
Prior scheduling experience.
Five years acute care experience as a scheduler or Registration clerk.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Must demonstrate the following:

Pay Range is $32.37 to $40.66 / hourThe salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidates experience education skills licensure and certifications department equity training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
