Design Manager - Construction

Arcadis is seeking a Director of Design Construction to join our infrastructure team in the Chicago IL area.

Role description:

In this role as the Design Manager you will manage the Design for Projects from evaluation and initial scope development through design completion. These projects are located in and throughout Cook County. The position will involve management of multiple projects simultaneously. the Design Manager will be part of a larger team with multiple project managers working under the positions supervision.

Role accountabilities:

• Oversight of PM staff during the Evaluation Planning and Design Phases of the project
• Tracking schedules and reporting to client on progress for all projects in Evaluation Planning and Design Phases
• Writing RFPs and RFQs for procurement of A/E services
• Help PMs develop the scope for projects in conjunction with Project team.
• Work with Project Controls team to implement and improve Program Controls for the design process along with Executive Team
• Attend weekly project meetings during design phase of projects to support PMs
• Review design A/E proposals and help PMs negotiate fees for design work
• Help with the development of Level of Effort estimates for design services
• Review and comment on Design documents for projects at various stages (i.e. Schematic Design Development Construction Permit) to ensure scope of documents is correct.
• Building and tracking design schedules
• Review pay applications from A/E firms

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelors degree or equivalent in relevant discipline
• 10 or more years relevant construction experience. including 5 years of managing small to medium sized projects.
• Experience with development and implementation of policy.
• Management of direct reporting staff experience
• Justice and Detention Facility experience preferred
• BIM implementation planning knowledge

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per salary range for this position is $88000 $132000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience education budget internal equity project and location.
