Latin School of Chicago is seeking an experienced dynamic and creative Middle School Spanish Teacher who is passionate about languages and cultures and committed to connecting with and supporting students. Strong candidates will be wellversed in proficiencybased instruction and educational technology and have demonstrated a commitment to inclusivity collaboration and professionalism. This is a oneyear position for academic year.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a Spanish curriculum in the target language for grades 56
- Use the ACTFL CanDo Statements along with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines to structure and assess student learning
- Supervise students in nonclassroom activities as assigned and scheduled including supervisions such as lunch study hall and recess duty
- Attend required department cohort faculty and school meetings
- Serve as an advisor to 1012 students
- Communicate effectively as a team member with fellow faculty in the grade level department and middle school as a whole
- Cultivate an inclusive and supportive climate for all students particularly students from underrepresented backgrounds
- Use educational technology as a vital part of teaching
- Engage in professional development that is appropriate for the role and aligned with school and department goals and philosophies.

Compensation:
- Salary is $64622 $114967 annually based on education level and years of experience as outlined in ourFaculty Scale.
Qualifications
- Masters degree preferred Bachelors degree required ideally in Spanish or Education
- At least 3 years teaching experience ideally in a middle school environment
- Native or nearnative language skills and ability to appropriately facilitate classes in the target language
- Knowledge of Spanishspeaking cultures and experience living abroad
- Affinity for middle schoolaged students
- Ability to incorporate socialemotional learning strategies
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
- Creation of lessons and units drawing from authentic materials and grounded in Backward Design
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity collaboration and professionalism
- Successful experience implementing a communicative approach and a variety of secondlanguage acquisition methodologies
- Experience designing curriculum using ACTFL Standards and proficiency targets
- Strong technology skills and the ability to fully embed technology into the instructional program
Physical Requirements:
- Able to stand for long periods at a time
- Able to speak clearly so listeners can understand; able to understand others
- Able to see details of people and objects more than a few feet away
