Position Title: 0.625 FTE Middle School Chorus Teacher
FLSA: Exempt
Reports to: Building Principal and/or Department Head
Terms of Employment: 184 day work year. Benefits and salary in accordance with the LEA Unit A collective bargaining agreement. All positions greater than 0.5 FTE are benefitseligible.
August 25 2025 start date. Unit A 2526 Salary Range
Position Responsibilities:
Lexington Public Schools is seeking an energetic welcoming inclusive and supportive parttime Choral Teacher at Clarke Middle School! The 0.625 FTE position as posted includes teaching chorus classes and general music classes with the ability to increase FTE in the future should enrollment in chorus classes increase. There is also a potential stipend for beforeschool honors chorus (grades 78).
- Courses Taught:
- Conducts and directs 6th 7th and 8th Grade choruses.
- Plans and executes approximately three to four school performances a year.
- Teaches some sections of 6th and 7th Grade General Music.
- Professional Duties:
- Plans and executes approximately three to four school performances a year.
- Attends department building and PLC meetings (prorated to match FTE).
- Serves on staff committees as required.
- Participates in the sponsorship of pupil activities.
- Works collaboratively and in partnership with a choral accompanist/coteacher.
- Completes all administrative tasks effectively and efficiently.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
- Teaching and Classroom Environment:
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate superior.
- Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Plans a program of study that as much as possible meets the individual needs interests and abilities of the students.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Assesses and evaluates pupils academic and social growth keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Has the potential to bring students to district and regional music festivals.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for educationrelated purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms and as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement if applicable.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupils progress and interpret the school program.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Supervises pupils in outofclassroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulation.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Must have appropriate licensure in the subject and at the grade level posted
- Must have a strong background in the National Core Arts Standards in music
- Must have a strong background in vocal pedagogy vocal health music theory musicianship skills and aural skills
- Must have a strong conducting background able to identify and troubleshoot technical musical and expressive elements in the music
- Must have a strong understanding of working with students from diverse backgrounds and can teach in a culturally responsive way
- Must create a learning environment that exudes high standards for our students in an inspiring positive and supportive way
- Must have exceptional organizational administrative and communication skills
- Must be goaloriented and a continuous learner
- Must be collaborative positive and flexible in working with their colleagues students parents administrators and community
