Job Description
THE POSITION

The Department of Environmental Protection is looking for a Chemist 1 who possesses strong analytical abilities and a passion for teamwork aiming to positively influence communities and the environment in Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position you will apply your strong analytical abilities to interpret and assess data from environmental samples. This includes organizing samples for efficient processing preparing necessary reagents standards spikes and other quality control measures. You will also be responsible for maintaining a detailed laboratory notebook to assist in data interpretation and ensure proper chain of custody. Additionally you will conduct preventative maintenance on analytical instruments coordinate with service technicians for repairs and demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting techniques to keep the instruments functioning effectively. The primary focus will be on analyzing Gross Alpha Gross Beta Radium228 and utilizing a Gas Flow Proportional Counter.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Fulltime employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday Friday with a 30minute lunch.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $50836 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- A bachelors degree in chemistry;or
- A bachelors degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry.
- Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.
