Biosafety Specialist II
Job Summary:
The Jackson Laboratorys Biosafety Program is seeking a Biosafety Specialist to assist the Biosafety Program specifically the JAX Biosafety Officer (BSO) in key aspects of oversight and regulation at facilities located in California Connecticut Maine and Florida. The Biosafety Specialist is responsible for developing programs and providing support to JAX personnel concerning the recognition evaluation and control of biological hazards. Our goal is to promote safe microbiological practices including the proper use of containment equipment and facilities to minimize risks associated with handling biological agents for JAX employees the surrounding communities and the environment.
Reporting to the JAX BSO and ideally based at the Bar Harbor Maine site the Biosafety Specialist will review new research projects utilizing biological agents in consultation with the JAX BSO write Risk Assessments and Safety Plans for biological agents and hazardous chemicals maintain Sharps Injury logs perform investigations of sharpsrelated injuries review Biosafety Programrelated documents provide postapproval monitoring of IBCapproved protocols update and assign Biosafety training and respond to biological spills at the Bar Harbor Maine position will crosstrain with the Bar Harbor EHS team to assist in other aspects of EHS offering an exciting opportunity to learn all aspects of EHS in addition to biosafety.
