Affiliated (Part-Time) Faculty Member | Musical Theatre Pop Styles | Performing Arts

Successful candidates will:

• have the ability to coach musical theatre actors on individual songs and sceneintosong duets;

• be familiar with a variety of pop styles genres and material in addition to the cultural and historical context for the canon;

• be able to design a semesterlong class that is half instructional with the remaining half focused on producing a curricular project.

Musical Theatre Core VII: Pop Styles

Advanced BFA Musical Theatre course designed to familiarize the students with a variety of genres and styles of American Popular Music with a focus on performance and interpretation for the stage. Students will synthesize core acting and singing techniques to create specific and stageworthy contexts for performance as well as stylistically appropriate vocal interpretations. Course culminates in a curricular presentation of solo and group numbers. As part of the Musical Theatre major core course include vocal instruction (taught by separate instructor).

The department offers BFA degrees in Theatre Theatre Education Theatre Design Technology Stage & Production Management Musical Theatre Acting Theatre & Performance and Theatre Education & Performance; general education courses in theatre studies; and an MA/MFA degree in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre. Emerson Stage the production organization within the department produces eight to ten fully staged major productions annually in five theatres with additional production opportunities available to our students through curricular projects student theatre organizations and ArtsEmerson the Colleges professional presenting company.
