The Performing Arts Department at Emerson College is looking for an affiliated (parttime) faculty member to teach Musical Theatre Core VII: Pop Styles (TH427) beginning Fall semester 2025 (September 3rd to December 16th).Successful candidates will:
have the ability to coach musical theatre actors on individual songs and sceneintosong duets;
be familiar with a variety of pop styles genres and material in addition to the cultural and historical context for the canon;
be able to design a semesterlong class that is half instructional with the remaining half focused on producing a curricular project.

Musical Theatre Core VII: Pop Styles
Advanced BFA Musical Theatre course designed to familiarize the students with a variety of genres and styles of American Popular Music with a focus on performance and interpretation for the stage. Students will synthesize core acting and singing techniques to create specific and stageworthy contexts for performance as well as stylistically appropriate vocal interpretations. Course culminates in a curricular presentation of solo and group numbers. As part of the Musical Theatre major core course include vocal instruction (taught by separate instructor).

The Department of Performing Arts is home to one of the nations leading programs in theatrical performance design stage management and theatre education. With a team of 90 full and parttime faculty and theatre staff members the department enrolls 530 students in nine distinct undergraduate programs and one graduate program. The department offers BFA degrees in Theatre Theatre Education Theatre Design Technology Stage & Production Management Musical Theatre Acting Theatre & Performance and Theatre Education & Performance; general education courses in theatre studies; and an MA/MFA degree in Theatre Education and Applied Theatre. Emerson Stage the production organization within the department produces eight to ten fully staged major productions annually in five theatres with additional production opportunities available to our students through curricular projects student theatre organizations and ArtsEmerson the Colleges professional presenting company.
