Job Description

Purpose Statement:

The job of Safety Operations Manager is done for the purpose/s of planning implementing and overseeing districts safety plans and operations. Furthermore to ensure that the district complies and adheres to all local state and federal guidelines for safety and security measures.

This job reports to the Executive Director of Safety & Emergency Management.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates the continued development of a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan for the District that will protect the school community during times of crisis or emergency.
  • Designs develops and implements instructional programs that inform and instruct the Districts faculty staff students and community in topics related to campus security safety and emergency management.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the safety plan at each individual district campus.
  • Conducts ongoing and annual audits of campus safety (SCSBIT and SCDE).
  • Implements and conducts emergency drills and exercises for schoolbased faculty staff and students.
  • Works actively and cooperatively with the leadership and staff coordinating safe and secure campus programs.
  • Consults with individual schools on safety and security related issues and / or needs for after school activities and sporting events (officers weapon screening etc.).
  • Administers and manages the District background check process and program.
  • Collaborates with District Community Outreach Coordinator on the districts volunteer engagement processes.
  • Oversees ensures compliance and performs data analysis of district incident management systems.
  • Coordinates with district Human Resources Risk Management and Public Information Officer on employee investigations civil processes and trespass notices.
  • Directly supervises / coordinates with District Safety Coordinator Campus Security Associates (CSA) School Security Officers (SSO) Safety Response Team (SRT) and School Resource Officers (SRO).
  • Implements and supervises all district safety screenings and hall sweeps.
  • Assists as the Districts SCISBIT safety liaison in collaboration with District Risk Management.
  • Coordinates with Communications on FOIO request and / or public information or communications.
  • Implements coordinates and maintains video viewing request with school level leadership.
  • Proactively leads and in ways to increase the overall safety performance of the district facilities.
  • Provides operational support for response to crises.
  • Act in capacity of department supervisor in absence of the Executive Director.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the department.

Skills Knowledge and Ability

SKILLS are required to perform multiple nontechnical tasks specific skill in observing and detecting unusual occurrences or behavior; ability to use computer applications such as spreadsheets word processing calendar

email and database software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students parents school personnel subordinates and the general public; ability to maintain records and prepare written reports; initiative; sound judgment; tact; courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals write documents following prescribed formats and/or present information to others; and understand complex multistep written and oral instructions; specific knowledge in security techniques; good knowledge of the principles practices and techniques employed in establishing and maintaining building security.

ABILITY is required to be trained in appropriate physical restraint training as provided by the school system. Ability is also required to work with a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific jobrelated equipment.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. There is a continual opportunity to significantly impact the organizations services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting 40% walking and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.

Experience

At least Five years of experience in areas related to school operations campus safety community safety emergency preparedness law enforcement physical security assessment or personal protection.

Education:

Satisfactory training knowledge and experience.
