EHS Specialist

• Plan and schedule Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) activities under the guidance of the Safety & Health Manager.
• Support the Safety & Health Manager in executing their responsibilities and perform professional EHS duties including:
  • Conducting compliance inspections and audits
  • Investigating accidents
  • Preparing and distributing materials on safety principles regulations standards and best practices
  • Compiling and submitting detailed reports
• Conduct inspections of assigned areas to ensure all operationsincluding those performed by subcontractorscomply with applicable Federal State and local regulations as well as Auxiliary Systems EHS policies and procedures.
• Identify EHS hazards or deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with production supervisors.
• Prepare comprehensive reports on inspections accident investigations injury/illness statistics and employee safety concerns or complaints.
• Maintain OSHA 300 Logs and ensure timely completion of incident and accident investigations including followthrough on corrective actions. Track and report current incident rates.
• Conduct various safety training sessions as required including new hire orientations employee recall orientations subcontractor safety orientations and other specialized safety trainings.
• Stay current on OSHA regulations and EHS standards by reviewing industry literature and trade publications.
• Participate in and lead EHSrelated meetings with management employee safety committees and production training sessions.
• Utilize standard software programs such as Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and Velocity EHS for documentation and reporting.
• Obtain and maintain Shipyard Competent Person certification.
• Enter confined spaces as needed.
• Receive interpret and communicate marine chemist instructions effectively.
• Be available for occasional weekend or overtime work including oncall assignments
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Desired Education and Experience:

• Education Minimum: High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred Minimum: Associate degree in a related safety field or 5 years experience in a safety related field.
• Comprehensive computer skills preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required.

Other Requirements:

• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be able to pass a drug screening.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to be able to occasionally stand; walk; sit; use hands and/or fingers to handle or feel objects tools or controls; operate office equipment reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; talk or hear; taste or smell.
