Job Description

Description

This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating the duties of the Restorative Justice Lab including project management project implementation meeting facilitation data reporting grant writing grant reporting and budget reporting. The person in this position will also communicate and coordinate with stakeholders at the university Limestone Correctional Facility and grant funders.

The Restorative Justice Lab is a collaborative and interdisciplinary hub for rethinking justice through communitybuilding mutual aid and restorative practices that prevent reduce and transform harm. Our work is generated from and around prisons in Alabama.

This is a 2year grant funded position under the RJ LabsIdentifying and Scaling Programmatic Technical Assistance Resources in Higher Education in Prisongrant award. Under this grant award the RJ Lab will develop a series of toolkits on communitybuilding for other higher education in prison programs. In addition to supervising the RJ Labs duties the program coordinator will ensure that progress is made toward these deliverables.

*This position is a grantfunded position. Initial and continued employment in this position is contingent up on funding by the sponsoring agency.*

Essential Job Duties

  • Supervise the RJ Labs graduate teaching assistant and program volunteers;
  • Create and maintain databases for program data collection;
  • Connect former inside students from the RJ Lab with community resources;
  • Work with the Office of Student Conduct and other university stakeholders to create a process for students who leave Limestone CF and want to continue their education at UNA;
  • Order program supplies and report program activities;
  • Manage the current grant awards that support the RJ Lab including budgets;
  • Assist with grant writing grant reporting and identifying new grant opportunities;
  • Set meetings and communicate with RJ Lab faculty and contractors to ensure progress toward grant outcomes;
  • Coordinate with stakeholders from various institutions that support the RJ Lab including UNA administration Limestone Correctional Facility staff and administration and grant funders;
  • Recruit outside students for RJ Lab coursework delivered through the InsideOut Prison Exchange Program;
  • Recruit and coordinate volunteers to help staff the programs study hall sessions;
  • Assist the RJ Lab faculty in scheduling courses and advisement sessions for students at Limestone CF;
  • Coordinate with administrative assistants and department chairs in PJLP English and Psychology/Sociology for course scheduling;
  • Coordinate with institutional research on data collection;
  • Maintain and organize student records for SACSCOC reporting;
  • Visit the Limestone Correctional Facility to meet with current and former students in the RJ Lab including the newly formed Student Advisory Council;
  • Perform outreach duties to engage local communities in the work of the RJ Lab;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Prepare and conduct workshops at Limestone Correctional Facility to facilitate outcomes for the Identifying and Scaling Programmatic Resources award. The Alabama Department of Corrections requires background checks and training prior to entering the facility.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree is required;
  • Willingness and ability to visit the prison as requested required;
  • Experience with program coordination academic support services or student services in an educational setting is preferred;
  • Experience workingwithgrants is preferred;
  • Experience in an administrative role involving project planning execution and budgeting is preferred;
  • Familiarity with data collection management and reporting is preferred;
  • Applicants with experience in visual arts are strongly preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work effectively with students in a prison setting;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with external constituencies and stakeholders;
  • Ability to follow university sponsoring agency and prison policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of current technologies for communication data storage data collection specifically Microsoft office (365) applications;
  • Ability to monitor fiscal compliance and prepare detailed program budget reports;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written and to relate to others in a professional helpful manner;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to multitask and organize prioritize and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with attention to detail and little direct supervision;
  • Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information;
  • Ability to analyze problems identify solutions and take appropriate action using independent judgment and decisionmaking processes;
  • Knowledge of and ability to write manage and report on grants;
  • Ability to travel to Limestone Correctional Facility.
