Job Description

UFG is looking for aMajor Case Specialization Leader to join our team who will is primarily responsible for the overall direction and success of the Major Case team in the Claims department. This role is expected to oversee and manage the high exposure and complex claims. The Major Case Specialization Leader will provide high level direction and strategic support to Complex Litigation Professional Liability Construction Defect Excess and Surplus Class Action Long tail and Assumed Reinsurance. This role is expected to develop and implement strategy successfully leverage data manage information and technology to achieve optimal outcomes. This role operates in a highly collaborative environment engaging with peers and executive leadership regularly.

Responsibilities:

People Leadership and Talent Management:

  • A strong leader of people responsible for driving a positive culture ensuring adherence to best practices and producing consistent predictable outcomes.
  • Develop a highly technical team by promoting accountability driving performance excellence and conducting salary administration.
  • Oversee quality review collaborating with QA to ensure continuous development of talent and processes.

Operations Management:

  • Consistently leverage data to establish strategy and drive decisions.
  • Pursue process improvements as necessary and actively collaborate on strategic recommendations to streamline and improve the overall claims process.
  • Prepares and presents high profile complex information to senior leadership customers counsel and other relevant business partners by identifying high profile claim data developing executive loss summaries and coordinating resolution strategies.
  • Collaborates plans and forecasts with claims management on budget matters.

Governance:

  • Manage and direct claims handling processes which include coverage determinations investigations resolution risk transfer negotiations litigation management and reserving.
  • Develop and promote best practices in effort to meet department/organizational expectations.
  • Promote consistent proactive litigation management processes and collaboration with legal counsel to ensure consistent predictable outcomes.
  • Adheres to Claims Best Practices and ensures relevant standards are met throughout Complex Claims.
  • Review reinsurance reports for adequacy accuracy and clarity prior to submitting to reinsurance partners. Participate in audits be reinsurance partners.
  • Research and stay current on changes in coverages policies and appropriate statutory or case law. Communicate the necessary information to the staff. Collaborate with relevant business partners to conduct training as needed.
  • Conducts proper reserving and resolution of claims by collaborating with internal and external business partners to drive and execute a claim strategy.
  • Identified and assists staff and legal counsel on the recognition and pursuit of risk transfer.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • 4year college degree preferred.
  • AIC SCLA or Legal Principles CCLA and PCLA of the AEI series or be willing and able to complete one within 3 years.
  • CPCU designation or working towards.
  • Must meet the appropriate state licensing laws required to handle multi line claims.

Experience:

  • 10 years total experience in high exposure and complex commercial P&C claims.
  • 5 years of supervisory/management experience.

Knowledge skills & abilities:

  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and written.
  • Ability to lead a team of 3 direct reports; 15 indirect reports efficiently.
  • Data driven decision making.
  • Willingness to learn additional lines of business as Underwriting expands portfolio.
  • Ability to efficiently manage both a unit budget and company finances.

Working Conditions:

  • General office environment.
  • This job may require working irregular hours evenings or weekends on occasion.
  • Overnight travel required on occasion. Travel represents less than 10% of this role.
  • Jobs may require work in the field with exposure to heat cold noise dust smoke and soot.
  • The position is tasked with working with both employees and nonemployees with a high level of stress.
