Job Description

Position Summary

JOB SUMMARY:The Truck Driving Training Specialist/Examiner is responsible for facilitating truck driving classes related to the Colleges Truck Driving Program. Duties will include curriculum design and implementation preparing students to acquire a Class A CDL and conducting CDL examinations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

DUTIES:

    • Teach courses as assigned in accordance with the curriculum to include classroom and handson instruction
    • Conduct instruction in both day and evening settings
    • Use personal driving experiences to effectively communicate the proper procedures of driving a truck and trailer
    • Maintain classroom trucks supplies and environments which promote learning to perform in the current and emerging work world environments
    • Conduct CDL examinations of students and walkins
    • Communicate with employers in the trucking industry to receive guidance for upgrading curriculum and instruction
    • Maintain equipment of Truck Driving Training program
    • Recruit students for classes
    • Comply with all policies of the Alabama Community College System and the College
    • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED certificate required
  • Current Class A CDL required
  • Acceptable MVR (motor vehicle report) required
  • Three (3) years documented fulltime recent CDL driving experience required
  • All endorsements (P T XHaz Tank) preferred
  • Three (3) years Driver Training Experience preferred
  • Three (3) years over the road driving experience preferred
  • Alabama DOT Third party examiner license preferred
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to effectively operate a commercial vehicle (CDL Skills Test)
  • Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical
  • Effective oral written and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of institutional rules regulations procedures and functions
  • Ability to design and implement a comprehensive curriculum for classroom and experiential learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students other employees and the public
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of office information
  • Commitment to all students including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds
  • Commitment to the teachinglearning process of the community college and the opendoor admission process

SALARY:Salary Schedule C3 ($45000$55000). Salary will be based on VERIFIED education and years of VERIFIED related experience that is stated on the initial job application only.

Salary Calculation:For all positions on all Salary Schedules the salary amount for the selected applicant is determined by step placement on the applicable schedule. Step placement is dependent upon the following: (a) all work experience in public education in Alabama and (b) all other work experience outside of public education in Alabama that in the sole judgment of the College directly relates to the requirements of the position. The applicant selected for the position must provide written verification(s) of this work experience within the time provided herein if such experience is to be considered in determining their initial step place on the Salary Schedule.
Format for Work Experience Verifications: Work experience verifications should be in the form of verification letters from employers and must include complete employment dates job title(s) job duties and an indication whether such employment was fulltime or parttime and if parttime the average number of hours worked each week. The letters should be on official letterhead and contain an authorized personnel signature. The Colleges official employment verification form is also acceptable and is available upon request. If an employment verification cannot be obtained due to a legitimate reason for purposes of meeting minimum requirements an applicant may submit copies of other trustworthy documentation such as appointment letters contracts pay stubs or W2 forms documenting the term of employment. However such documentation is generally insufficient for salary calculation purposes if job duties and dates of employment are not selfevident in the documentation.
