JOB TITLE: PSYCHOLOGIST

JOB SUMMARY:Evaluate students for special education eligibility assist in developing appropriate program(s) for eligible students and support instructional staff in providing effective instructional programs for identified students with special needs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate as a team member with responsibility for identification eligibility and placement of special education.
  • Assist in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for eligible students; and modifications of instructional programs for accommodations to meet individual student needs.
  • Assist instructional staff in ensuring regulatory compliance for special education.
  • Participate with other staff to develop effective positive techniques for improving student behavior.
  • Consult with parents staff students and outside agency personnel regarding mental health behavioral social/emotional developmental appropriateness educational concerns and means of intervention for students being referred to evaluated for or receiving special education services.
  • Participate in and facilitate various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs and to meet laws and policies. Meetings may include school and department manifestation determination eligibility evaluation and placement.
  • Provide crisis intervention assistance.
  • Recognize individual student learning and cultural needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement and meeting special education laws and policies.
  • Engage in continuing education studies which insures professional growth.
  • Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by State and Federal regulations and district policy.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
  • Fulfill legal responsibilities implement and comply with federal and state laws District policies and other guiding principles and State Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.

JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills Knowledge and Abilitiesrequired to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress and achievement and conduct compliant evaluations for special education.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and promote consensus.
  • Skills in technical writing related to student records and reports.
  • Knowledge of and skills in designing and conducting specialized instruction remediation and evaluation.
  • Ability to adapt and modify techniques and materials for effectiveness including cultural responsiveness.
  • Ability to interact and collaborate positively and effectively with parents students staff and administrators.
  • Ability to build an environment of trust teamwork and effective communication.
  • Skills and ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with diverse people including racially ethnically and socioeconomically diverse communities.
  • Ability to demonstrate cultural competencies.
  • Ability to identify and address personal cultural and institutional bias.
  • Skills and abilities in organization time management and record keeping.
  • Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability and commitment to strengthen jobrelated competencies.

EDUCATION:

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a psychologist
  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience preferred.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful and recent experience as a psychologist in a school setting.
  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural racial ethnic gender sexual orientation ability and socioeconomic backgrounds preferred.
