Student Success Specialist- COSE

Reports To: Coordinator of Advising and Student Persistence

Job Purpose

The Student Success Specialist (SSS) for the College of Science and Engineering is responsible for holistically supporting STEM students including intervening with academically atrisk students academically advising a cohort of students and serving as a liaison between the College of Science and Engineering and the Department of Student Success. The SSS will develop and maintain a relationship with the Dean of their assigned academic college and invest in the extracurricular activities of that college.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Academically advises all students in assigned cohort
• Provides holistic support for cohort through oneonone coaching
• Promotes and engages with career fairs and career development for specific academic unit
• Performs interventions tracks and creates maps to success for academically atrisk students in cohort
• Maintains and collects persistence data on students in academic unit
• Builds awareness of universitybased services (e.g. advising career services campus recreation student organizations tutoring) to promote holistic student development
• Assists the Dean (or designate) of assigned college in developing and implementing retention and early intervention programs for students
• Participates and leads in planning and implementation of the Summer Launch program including active involvement during the week of the program
• Represents department and academically advises at PreRegistration and GO events
• Support on campus events for the College of Science and Engineering
• Oversee creation and dissemination of student weekly newsletter for the College of Science and Engineering
• Aids in social academic and spiritual integration to support student engagement and success
• Contributes to students discipleship and spiritual growth as key component of student success and development
• Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

• Commitment to the ministry and mission of Houston Christian University
• Ability and willingness to disciple students and foster spiritual growth
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university (preferably in a field of study within their assigned academic unit)

Expectations

In addition to the above job responsibilities some weekends or evenings may be required on a limited basis.
