You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailUnder the direction of an assigned supervisor assist in quantity preparation and serving of foods at assigned District sites; maintain food service facilities equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
Assists in the preparation and service of food; prepares fruits vegetables and desserts; assembles various ingredients as assigned; packages wraps and sort food items according to established procedures and portion control standards; serves meals on serving lines; sets out prepared foods.
Maintains food service facilities equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition; operates dishwashers and wash trays pots pans plates utensils and other serving equipment.
Prepares entrees salad bar and side dishes for sale and distribution; assists in preparing sack lunches; mixes slices grates and chop food items; opens cans; replenishes containers as necessary.
Stocks condiments food items and paper goods; assists in the storage and rotation of supplies in storage areas.
Cleans serving counters tables chairs food containers and other food service equipment; prepares food and beverages for sale; counts and setup plates trays and utensils.
Performs cashiering duties as assigned; counts money and makes correct change.
Operates standard food service equipment such as slicers ovens can openers utensils and warmers; assists in the process of packaging food items as assigned by the position.
Assists in the preparation baking and cooking of hot food items breads and pastries as assigned.
Maintains routine records related to work performed.
Performs related duties as assigned.

Basic food preparation including washing cutting and assembling food items and ingredients.
Standard kitchen equipment utensils and measurements.

ABILITY TO:
Assist in quantity preparation and serving of foods at assigned District sites.
Maintain food service facilities equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
Wash cut slice grate and assemble food items.
Learn sanitation practices related to the handling and serving of food.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Interact effectively with staff students and parents.
Work cooperatively with others.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Read interpret and apply rules regulations policies and procedures.
Adhere to food safety monitoring procedures.
Meet schedules and time lines.

Operate a cash register and make change accurately.
Graduation from High School. Experience working with children and experience in a food service environment including handling money.
Exams are required for ALL applicants.
Multiple dates will be offered for exams.
Please note: The qualifying pass point on written examinations may be an actual score or an adjusted score based on the difficulty of the examination the quality of the competition and the needs of the service.
Positions in the job classification typically work 40 hours/week annually.
OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The duration of the eligibility list is 6 months unless extended by the Executive Director of Classified Human Resources and the Personnel Commission.

Hayward Unified School District will provide a contribution of up to $2500 per year to be used towards a District healthcare plan or cash in lieu of up to $1350 per year. Fulltime employees are required to purchase medical health benefits unless proof of alternate coverage is provided. Halftime and less than halftime employees may participate on a voluntary basis. The balance of health benefit costs are paid through a pretax payroll deduction.
Dental coverage is provided free of charge for all employees working 20 hours per week or more. Family coverage is available and any additional premium will be employee paid.
Classified employees must participate in the CalPERS Retirement program.
All employees are enrolled in an Employee Assistant Program (EAP).
The District also offers various optional benefits including life insurance short term disability and a medical and dependent care flexible spending option.
