About Us

DYS is the juvenile corrections system for the state of Ohio. DYS is statutorily mandated to confine felony offenders ages 1021 who have been adjudicated and committed by one of Ohios 88 county juvenile courts. During their stay with DYS youth are engaged in programming that is designed to address their criminological and behavioral needs. DYS reaches thousands of youth in facilities and those on parole.

The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a preemployment drug screening and criminal background check that includes results from BCI & FBI. An individual assessment of an applicants prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.
All new candidates hired to the Department of Youth Services must complete a mandatory 6 weeks of training. Week 1 is held at CJCF weeks 2 through 4 are held at DYS Training Academy in Orient Ohio Monday through Thursday 7:00 am 5:00 pm. Weeks 5 6 are on the job training held at CJCF.

DYS is seeking aCorrectional Program Specialistto plan and deliver social services programs for assigned units in a juvenile correctional facility. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge in program facilitation monitoring and evaluating treatment goals social services policy and program planning as well as exceptional communication skills in order to handle sensitive contacts with youth and family members.

18 mos. exp in social or behavioral science or criminal justice or human services; 6 mos. exp in one or more of the following: report writing record keeping interviewing counseling or contact with social service agencies.
Or completion of associate core program in social or behavioral science or criminal justice or human services; 6 mos. exp in one or more of the following: report writing record keeping interviewing counseling or contact with social service agencies.
Or completion of undergraduate core program in social or behavioral science or criminal justice or human services.
Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
